“America” is an Oscar-worthy short film by Brazilian filmmaker Aly Muritiba. It stars Luca Castellani and Cheyenne Jackson as the two male leads. #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the scoop.

Ironically enough, “America” marks Muritiba’s English language film debut. It features raw and captivating performances by Luca Castellani and Cheyenne Jackson, as they tell this unflinching tale of Tom, a Brazilian immigrant waiter, who is searching for the American dream.

With Luca Castellani as Tom, it is evident that a star is born. Cheyenne Jackson is tremendous as Josh (the writer who develops a relationship with Tom). Most importantly, the movie’s subject matter in timely and relevant, especially in these trying times that the world is going through.

“America” deserves to score a 2026 Oscar nomination for “Best Live Action Short Film.” It is an enlightening 22-minute cinematic experience, and congrats to Aly Murtiba for bringing this emotional story to life. Well done.
