On Saturday, January 17th, Gyro City opened its doors at MacDougal Street in Manhattan. #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the recap.

It was a snowy and slushy day in New York City, but that didn’t stop hundreds from stopping by Gyro City for its grand opening at 12 p.m. where the line was around the block.

What makes it stand out is that it is comprised of authentic Greek food that is made up of clean ingredients. It is a laid-back, casual and mellow spot with a good ambiance and vibe to it.

They offer multiple varieties of gyros (pronounced yeeros) and souvlaki… all of which are served with fresh, toasted pita bread (which is made the same way that it is experienced in Greece. Their eclectic gyros include:

🐑 Beef and Lamb Gyro Pita
🍗 Chicken Gyro Pita
🔥 Chicken Souvlaki Pita
🐖 Pork Souvlaki Pita
🐮 Beef and Lamb Kebab Pita
🌭 Loukaniko (Sausage) Pita
🍤 SHRIMP SOUVLAKI PITA
🧆 Falafel Pita

This journalist tried their “Chicken Gyro Pita,” where the meat was tender and nicely made, as it was served with its distinct “Gyro City” sauce; moreover, their Greek salad portions are generous, healthy, and filling (and most importantly, they do not consist of any lettuce in there… so it’s 100 percent Greek)

“Thank you all for the overwhelming support, patience, and energy at our Grand Opening. To our neighbors, friends, and everyone who came out in the storm — we’re grateful to be here and honored to feed you,” the three partners posted on social media.

Gyro City was built by three partners, two Greeks (George Karavias and Angelo Georgiadis) and an Italian (Mario Costantini) of Dream Hospitality Group, but more importantly three best friends who have worked side by side for over a decade. What started as a shared love for food and hospitality turned into a simple belief: Gyros deserve better, and so do the people eating them.

They have a love for food, hospitality, health, and above all, people. That mindset shapes everything we do.

Gyro City is a fast casual concept where quality meets convenience without sacrificing its true identity. They use USDA organic produce, carefully sourced proteins, and real preparation methods not to reinvent the Gyro, but to honor it, and thus, help it thrive.

Their French Fries are crunchy, and they are cooked in Beef Tallow instead of Seed Oils. Their Meats are juicy coupled with fresh toppings and simple ingredients.

The mission of Gyro City is clear and simple: to serve the best Gyros, Fries, Bowls, and Treats without compromise.

“I really enjoyed Gyro City in my first visit. The food is great here,” bestselling author Dar Dowling exclaimed.

The Verdict

Overall, Gyro City is a pleasant new authentic Greek-American eatery in the heart of Greenwich Village. There is something new to try at each visit due to its elaborate menu of offerings (gyros, bowls, fries, and pastries).

Based on this grand opening and everyone’s first visit, it is safe to say that it was a major success, and Gyro City in NYC is here to stay! It is highly recommended that everyone checks it out. It garners an A rating. Bravo.
