Hi, welcome to the launch of my new blog, ClutchWith2Out! I wanted to introduce myself, share a bit of my background, and give you a preview of what to expect here.
From the Diamond to the Data Lab
An aspiring engineer’s perspective
I’m currently a high school senior closing in on a May graduation. At my core, I’m an aspiring engineer; I live for math, science, and the process of building things from the ground up. Beyond the technical side, I’ve realized I have a deep-seated passion for helping people. My goal is to eventually merge engineering with social impact to create tools that genuinely improve lives.
The hitter’s mentality: hitting 90 MPH heat
Sports have been my world for as long as I can remember. While I’ve played almost everything competitively, baseball is where my heart is. I thrive on high-pressure moments—whether I’m on the mound with the bases loaded or at the plate with two outs, trying to drive in the winning run.
In my opinion, hitting a baseball is the toughest feat in sports. Trying to square up a round ball with a round bat when it’s screaming at 90 mph and breaking at the last second? There’s nothing else like it.
The Science of the hobby: Why Data Matters
Over the last five or six years, I’ve pivoted that competitive energy into collecting baseball and football cards. I started out like most kids—just hunting for stars like Aaron Judge—but I quickly fell down the rabbit hole of technicalities. I became fascinated by:
Treating cards like commodities
- Rarity & Scarcity: Understanding what truly makes a card unique.
- Condition: The fine margins between a “good” card and a “gem.”
- Print Run and market dynamics: Noticing how card values fluctuate much like the price of oil or gas.
What to Expect at ClutchWith2Out
This blog is where my athlete’s intuition meets my engineer’s brain. I’ll be using a data-centric approach to evaluate products and analyze the card market. While the primary focus is on card collecting and market trends (from my personal point of view, of course), I also reserve the right to weigh in on the “state of the game,” my favorite players, and the teams I follow.
I hope you enjoy the deep dives and learn something new along the way!
