Kunal Nayyar was thrust into the limelight as Raj Koothrappali on CBS hit comedy series Big Bang Theory. Throughout 12 seasons on the show, the actor displayed a cleanly shaven face but he recently took to Instagram to share a more rough look, asking fans if they would recognise him.
On the Big Bang Theory, Raj Koothrappali (played by Kunal Nayyar) was a socially awkward astrophysicist who required liquor courage to talk to women.
Kunal usually sported a clean-shaven look on the show so fans were shocked with his new look and responded in his comments.
In the caption, Kunal asked fans if they would recognise him in the street and one fan confessed: “Huge fan but I don’t think I’d recognize you lol.
“Nope, with the beard either, incognito.”
This was because Simon was the first cool person Raj met when he moved to America from India but due to the breakdown of their friendship, he no longer desired to look like him.
Kunal’s Instagram post isn’t the first time the actor had shocked his fans with a new look.
Away from the CBS comedy, he sported a rugged full beard and moustache for his role as a sinister murderer on Criminal season two.
On the Netflix thriller, Kunal played killer businessman, Sandeep Singh who had grown his beard after spending 10 years in Belmarsh prison for murder.
This new look, however, could be for his upcoming role in a brand new comedy-drama
Kunal is set to be playing the lead character in The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry.
A bookstore owner who receives a mysterious package after his life and career appeared to be going downhill.
This movie will be the onscreen adaptation of the bestselling novel of the same name written by Gabrielle Zevin.
However, it’s yet to be seen if this is the reason behind his new look.
