Charlie Matthews, Instagram and TikTok superstar, chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about his latest endeavors in the entertainment and social media industry.
Roman emperor once said: “Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart.” This quote applies to Charlie Matthews.
The digital age
On being a part of the digital age, Charlie said, “It feels good! I’ve been trying to keep reinvent myself and I am transitioning more to the digital era. I am trying to be more present on social media because these days, social media is just so big and streaming is huge now.”
Future plans
On his future plans, Charlie shared, “Recently, my life blew up thanks to TikTok. I got scouted doing Live streaming on TikTok. As I started live streaming, I subsequently started building community, and it just blew up out of nowhere.”
“Then, I ended up being a Top 50 ranked streamer in the USA in terms of connecting with other streamers, doing battles and everything, and that led to my audience blowing up. So next week, TikTok is flying me out to Las Vegas and along with the 100 creators in the USA and Canada for the event to connect with everybody for the awards ceremony,” he elaborated.
So that’s just what’s been going on the last couple of months, which has been absolutely crazy, because I never expected for this thing to take off like what it did.
Daily motivations
Each day, Charlie is motivated by “growth.” “If I don’t see myself growing, then I sit down and I reflect on what I am doing wrong. I’m always looking to improve, especially since I am a very introverted person,” he said. “It’s all about going to events, networking, being active on social media, and chatting with industry people.”
“I believe that in 2020, during the lockdown, it was definitely a huge time of self-reflection to work on improvements that I didn’t do in previous years,” he said.
Advice for hopefuls that wish to go into content creation
For hopefuls that wish to go into content creation and become influencers, Charlie encouraged them to “not limit themselves to one platform.”
“Just try to branch out to other social media networks, stay consistent, and just create high quality content,” he said. “No matter what… don’t get discouraged in terms of views. It’s always about quality over quantity.”
“Again, all it takes is that one person to see your potential… then, just stay consistent with it every day. Get on TikTok, Instagram, X, YouTune, Facebook, and everything because you never know what platform is going to work best for you,” he explained.
Stage of his life
On the title of the current chapter of his life, Charlie revealed, “Odyssey.”
“I came up with the name ‘Odyssey’ because over the course of the last two years, I’ve been travelling the entire world. I’ve been to Asia, Europe, and other places. It has been a long, adventurous journey that is reminiscent of a quest,” he elaborated.
“This title symbolizes my transformative life experiences, spiritual quests, and being on my path to self-discovering filled with changes and challenges,” he acknowledged.
“So, I came up with this name this year because I’ve gone through so many transitions during my life and childhood. I started as a professional video gamer, then I transitioned into a model, and I got successful in the stock market investing in A.I. in 2020,” he explained.
“That’s where I am at, right now,” he admitted. “I am trying to live out of my comfort zone because you never know what is out there for you. Los Angeles is the home base, but I always like to take risks and see what is out there. Things just happen to fall into place along the journey.”
Working with Ricardo Guerrero
Charlie praised his talent agent Ricardo Guerrero over at Pretty Management. “If it wasn’t for Ricardo, I wouldn’t be here,” he admitted. “Ricardo keeps you very disciplined and he keeps you at a very humble and a very grateful level. I’ve been with Ricardo for nearly 15 years.”
“When it comes to the people that have changed my life, I always stay loyal to them no matter where they go,” he said.
Superpower of choice
His superpower of choice would be “time travel.” “I would like to travel back in time and really relive memories of me with my mom and family,” he said.
“I used to play baseball with my mom and dad… those are the core memories I enjoyed as a kid, especially being in Little League and around my childhood friends,” he noted.
“Also, you can relate to listening to some of your favorite music from the ‘90s and ‘00s; those bring back some nice memories. It’s like a feeling of comfort because it brings so much joy,” he explained.
Success
Regarding his definition of success, Charlie said, “Success, to me, means being hardworking, dedicated, and staying consistent in what you are pursuing. That takes a lot of patience because things never happen overnight.”
“I would like to continue on this path, and I will stay consistent! All it takes is that one clip or one day that someone discovers you and that can change your life,” he noted. “That’s what happened with TikTok. I went Live one day, and it just happened out of nowhere. The end result was that I just blew up on TikTok!”
Message for his fans and supporters
For his fans and supporters, Charlie expressed, “I just appreciate the fans so much! Everybody has been so supportive; I am so humbled and grateful that I get to share my journey with the fans. I get to inspire a lot of people that look up to my work in terms of gaming, social media, or content creation.”
“It has been such a privilege to get to have an audience like that, where I get to show them parts of my life,” he noted. “That’s part of the reason why I go on Live streams every day… to give back to people.”
“If people are loyal to me, I am going to be loyal to them because I want to get to know more about them as people. That’s why I joined TikTok because I want to connect to the followers and the audience, and I want to get to know them better,” he concluded.
