College scholarship is named after slain ‘General Hospital’ actor Johnny Wactor

The College of Charleston recognized actor Johnny Wactor posthumously with a scholarship in his name.

Wactor was killed on May 25, 2024, in Downtown Los Angeles in an attempted catalytic converter theft incident. Wactor died a hero shielding a female co-worker.

The Johnny W. Wactor III ’09 Endowed Scholarship honors the legacy of beloved alum Johnny Wactor who inspired others through his compassion, integrity, and zest for life. This gift will support students who, like Johnny, make a meaningful impact on their communities and pursue their dreams with purpose. Thanks to the generosity of two of Johnny’s close friends, all donations will be matched — doubling the impact.

Two anonymous donors have pledged to match the first $50,000 donated to the Johnny W. Wactor III ’09 Endowed Scholarship so that someone who positively impacted so many is not forgotten.
