BT is offering FREE broadband for Black Friday, here’s how to claim yours https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/science-technology/1523917/BT-Is-Offering-Free-Broadband-Black-Friday

And it’s a real doozy. The company is offering customers the chance to unlock <a data-link-tracking=”InArticle|Link” href=”https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=3041&awinaffid=213635&clickref=Express—ExpressTech-BlackFriday&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bt.com%2Fproducts%2Fbroadband%2Fbroadband-learn” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow” onclick=”ExpressApp.GoogleAnalytics.TrackEvent(‘Affiliate NetworkEvent’, ‘AWIN’)”>free broadband for 3-months when they sign-up for one of its fibre plans. Yes, you did read that correctly – completely free. Join BT’s Fibre 100 plan, which offers average download speeds of around 150Mbps (around twice the UK average), today and you won’t get billed by the company until March 2021.

For all of its Black Friday deals, BT is also throwing in free activation and free postage and packaging. That’s in stark contrast with rival Virgin Media, which has slashed as much as £342 off the cost of its fibre broadband, but still charges £35 upfront to cover activation and postage. If you’re looking for the lowest possible bills until the new year, there’s no competition between Virgin Media and BT in the Black Friday sales this year – with the latter, you won’t spend a penny.

Unfortunately, you will need to start paying for your broadband connection at some point. When you do, BT’s prices are not too dissimilar from what we’ve seen in the past, but certainly nothing hugely competitive.

For example, BT is charging £39.99 for its aforementioned Fibre 100 plan. However, Sky charges £35 a month for its Ultrafast broadband tier, which offers only slightly slower speeds at around 145Mbps. With the three months, BT is still cheaper …but only just.

It’s definitely not such an amazing deal that we’d stop you heading to Sky Broadband if you’re thinking about plumping for the all-new Sky Glass TV, which lets you stream all Sky television channels over broadband, incorporates boxsets and blockbusters from Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and more, and includes a soundbar in a single 4K TV. The custom-designed Sky Glass is only available direct from Sky. We’ve got the lowdown on the latest Sky Black Friday deals here [LINK]

Of course, BT offers its own deals on telly – including on Sky’s channels.

New and existing customers who sign up for BT TV’s Entertainment and Sport plans from now until December 2, 2021 will get their <a data-link-tracking=”InArticle|Link” href=”https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=3041&awinaffid=213635&clickref=Express—ExpressTech-BlackFriday&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bt.com%2Ftv%2Fpackages%2F%3Fs_intcid%3Dcon_portal_tv_column-split_storefront_new_cust_packges” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow” onclick=”ExpressApp.GoogleAnalytics.TrackEvent(‘Affiliate NetworkEvent’, ‘AWIN’)”>first three months of BT TV service slashed in half. While it’s not quite as generous as the completely free broadband, it’s still a phenomenal deal.

If you’re not familiar with BT TV, the clever box includes all of the usual tricks you’d expect from a modern set-top kit, including the ability to pause and rewind live television and integrate on-demand content from services like Sky’s NOW, Amazon Prime Video and BritBox. You can even add these subscriptions to your BT TV bill, so you’ve got everything in one convenient bill.

BT’s <a data-link-tracking=”InArticle|Link” href=”https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=3041&awinaffid=213635&clickref=Express—ExpressTech-BlackFriday&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bt.com%2Ftv%2Fpackages%2F%3Fs_intcid%3Dcon_portal_tv_column-split_storefront_new_cust_packges” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow” onclick=”ExpressApp.GoogleAnalytics.TrackEvent(‘Affiliate NetworkEvent’, ‘AWIN’)”>Big Entertainment bundle only costs £13 a month for the first three months and unlocks access to all of the latest award-winning US dramas and Sky Originals from Sky Atlantic, all 11 Sky Cinema channels, plus a fully-fledged Netflix membership to stream the latest must-binge boxset. After three months, your bills will bounce back to the usual £26 per month – the same as Sky Q charges, albeit without access to Sky Cinema, which costs extra – for the remaining months of your contract.

BT’s all-singing, all-dancing <a data-link-tracking=”InArticle|Link” href=”https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=3041&awinaffid=213635&clickref=Express—ExpressTech-BlackFriday&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bt.com%2Ftv%2Fpackages%2F%3Fs_intcid%3Dcon_portal_tv_column-split_storefront_new_cust_packges” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow” onclick=”ExpressApp.GoogleAnalytics.TrackEvent(‘Affiliate NetworkEvent’, ‘AWIN’)”>VIP bundle only costs £36.50 for the first three months of your contract. Woah. All you need to do is carve out a good few hours every weeknight to try to plough through all of those boxsets, blockbusters and sports fixtures.

Fri, 19 Nov 2021 11:17:00 +0000 Aaron Brown

Sonos just made your speaker sound even better, here’s how https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/science-technology/1523222/Sonos-Update-S2-App-Made-Your-Speaker-Sound-Even-Better
https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/science-technology/1523222/Sonos-Update-S2-App-Made-Your-Speaker-Sound-Even-Better

The latest update from Sonos, which is available to anyone who relies on the S2 companion app to control their smart audio system, brings a new battery saver mode for the Sonos Roam and Sonos Move.

These devices, which behave like any other Sonos smart speaker in the home, become high-quality Bluetooth speakers when they’re out on the road with you. With the new battery saver setting switched on, the speakers will turn off after 30 minutes of inactivity. You’ll need to use physical power buttons to turn them back on.

Sonos claims that its Move can retain battery life for up to 30 days and Roam can do so for as long as 70 days when completely switched off.

Finally, the updated S 2app also brings EQ settings to the Now Playing screen within the iOS app. Tap on the volume bar to access the settings and make granular changes to the sound. Unfortunately, the feature isn’t available yet on Android, so those users will need to wait a few more months to gain access to the feature.
Fri, 19 Nov 2021 10:01:00 +0000 Aaron Brown

BBC iPlayer gets biggest upgrade in years, this is what’s new on your TV today https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/science-technology/1523383/BBC-iPlayer-Redesign-Biggest-Upgrade-In-Years-New-Look-Whats-New
https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/science-technology/1523383/BBC-iPlayer-Redesign-Biggest-Upgrade-In-Years-New-Look-Whats-New

BBC iPlayer has been overhauled from the ground up, with the new design rolling out your TV from today. The refresh is part of a major rebrand taking place across the BBC after research showed most viewers believed its look was “old fashioned” compared to flashier American streaming services. Unsurprisingly, the new iPlayer design takes a leaf from Netflix’s playbook, with the Beeb relocating the menu to the left-hand side of the screen in a new vertically-stacked list.

Pressing the left arrow on your remote (or swiping, depending on what model of set-top box you’re using) will let you quickly browse through categories, like comedy, drama, or sport. The BBC has also shrunk the size of the menu to make more room for the content on-screen. With the new design, BBC iPlayer has more breathing room to display high-resolution artwork for its latest shows and movies.

It also means “viewers are more likely to spot something new to watch,” the Beeb adds.

The company is keen to stress that its new menu design isn’t only about beautifying the interface, it’s also designed to improve usability. In a blog post about the changes, the broadcaster said: “it’s important to us that any changes we make to iPlayer work for everyone, so our new menu has been usability tested with adults, children, and people with accessibility needs to ensure people can continue to find and explore our many programme genres and channels with ease.”

The new look is available on Smart TVs, Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast with Google TV, Sky Q and other versions of the BBC iPlayer app designed to watch on the big screen. If the changes haven’t appeared on your version of BBC iPlayer yet, you can force the app to adopt the shiny new design by heading to the Settings menu within iPlayer, then selecting “switch to iPlayer beta”.

The facelift on your TV is only the first step in a wider redesign for iPlayer, so expect similar changes to roll out to the iPhone, iPad, Android, and other versions of the video on-demand service in the coming weeks and months. This should ensure consistency across the various versions of BBC iPlayer, which is also available in your web browser.

Ahead of the reveal of its all-new user interface, BBC revealed a minimalist new logo for iPlayer. The new look, which is comprised solely of simple graphic shapes, is shared across a wide range of services, including BBC Sounds, BBC News, BBC Weather, BBC Sport and BBC Bitesize. All of these use three differently-configured blocks in various colour combinations.

For iPlayer, that colour will be a graduated shade of pink. The shapes are configured into a triangular ‘Play’ symbol. The redesign also implements the new BBC-owned font Reith, named after the BBC’s founder John Reith. This same font will be used across all of the new designs, including the main BBC logo, BBC One, and others.

The redesign comes after the Beeb reported record-breaking viewing figures for its iPlayer app. BBC iPlayer streaming has increased by 20 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the latest data. Some 1.5 billion streams were recorded in the last financial quarter, up 20 percent compared to the same period last year and an astonishing 49 percent compared with 2019. As such, this makes it the biggest ever third-quarter for BBC iPlayer in history.

Fri, 19 Nov 2021 11:25:00 +0000 Aaron Brown
