Elvis Presley would have been 86-years-old on January 8, 2021. But Graceland has been keeping his legacy alive by celebrating his birthday every year with special events just like Elvis Week in August. This year, socially distanced COVID-19 protocols will be in place for the in-person events held in Memphis, Tennessee.
While the Elvis Birthday Proclamation Ceremony today is already sold out, fans unable to attend can view the event for free via livestream on Graceland’s official Facebook page.
Gate open for those in-person at 8.30am (2.30pm GMT) on January 8 for a 9am (3pm GMT) start.
The official website states: “Enjoy a ceremony with Graceland/EPE officials, a birthday cake cutting and a proclamation of Elvis Presley Day by Memphis and Shelby County official.”
Elvis’ Birthday Celebration 2021 takes place over three days on January 7-9 and also includes a daily Hidden Graceland tour.
Additionally, at 4pm guests will be invited on a two hour Graceland Mansion tour with Elvis’ home still decorated for Christmas.
After all, The King famously kept the decorations up until his birthday.
And if that wasn’t enough, officially licensed Elvis artist Better Harper will have her art on display and be making an appearance.
This event will take place daily from January 7-9 from 1-4pm at The Guest House at Graceland’s gift shop.
Plus, during the three-day birthday celebration, fans can walk up to visit Graceland’s Meditation Garden free from 7:30-8:30am.
Elvis is buried there next to his parents Vernon and Gladys and his grandmother Minnie.
While right nearby is the final resting place of The King’s only grandson Benjamin Keough, who died aged 27-years-old last summer.
