Emmerdale: Kim tells Mackenzie ‘cut Cain down to size’
The Christmas storylines were rather uneventful for Emmerdale this year, there were no attacks in the middle of the night, no cold bodies found in the middle of the village leading to a new whodunnit storyline, and no scandalous affairs. Instead, Paddy Kirk (played by Dominic Brunt) and Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) got married and Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb) returned and was identified as Al Chapman’s (Michael Wildman) mistress. But, the soap has a surprise for fans as the younger members of the cast are going to be at the heart of the drama this New Year.
ITV has announced jealousy, resentment, betrayal, dark secrets and compelling story twists are going to take centre stage from next week.
Consequently, some of Emmerdale’s youngest residents will find themselves at the centre of the drama.
Executive Producer Jane Hudson hints at what’s in store for the young actors who have established themselves as more than capable of leading storylines throughout the last 12 months.
She said: “We are so lucky to have such a talented group of young actors who can deliver some of our biggest storylines.
“It’s exciting to watch characters grow up and see how they develop and how their actions shape their futures.
“And there is plenty of action coming up which will take the young Emmerdale characters on journeys the audience won’t be expecting.”
Emmerdale confirms betrayal, dark secrets and twists for younger residents in 2021
Vinny Dingle, Mandy Dingle, Paul Ashdale
In upcoming weeks, Paul’s (Reece Dinsdale) aggressive behaviour towards Vinny (Bradley Johnson) will continue, but he will do anything to protect his mother from knowing the truth.
How long will it be before Mandy (Lisa Riley) sees Paul’s true colours?
Fans of Emmerdale will see Vinny struggle more and more, but Mandy knows nothing, instead she has marriage on her mind.
The actor who plays Vinny said: “Vinny’s path has been extremely troubling since his dad arrived in the village and he’s constantly being let down and betrayed.
“He clearly wants to believe his dad will change, but he will find himself on a long, dark and isolating journey.
“Getting to grips with the character and exploring the abuse Vinny suffers at the hands of his father has been a great learning experience and one I want to do justice,” Bradley added.
Emmerdale spoilers: Will Liv help Vinny get away from his dad?
During this week’s episodes, Liv (Isobel Steele) expressed concerns about her epilepsy result, wondering whether she can lead a fulfilling life.
It won’t be long before the worst is confirmed and she is forced to make changes to her day to day routine, all while trying to support Vinny.
But with Paul making his influence and presence felt, how much can Liv intervene?
Isobel who plays Liv said: “I’m really looking forward to seeing how Vinny and Liv’s relationship develops naturally and is put to the test.
“I’m also excited to see how Liv deals with her newly diagnosed epilepsy and how this affects her confidence as a young woman.“

Sarah Sugden and Debbie Dingle
Debbie returned last week and it won’t be long before she is trying to steer her wayward daughter.
Sarah (Katie Hill) is running wild as Danny returns and persuades her to get involved in his latest drugs deal.
But, those closest to Sarah won’t be the only once affected by her choices, as several village residents will be dragged down with her.
Can Debbie continue to support Sarah despite all of the lies and deceit?
The actress who plays Sarah explained: “The start of this year is going to be quite an eventful one for Sarah as a lot is going on that will affect her – and she’s left feeling lonely and unwanted.
“When Danny returns, she sees an opportunity to feel wanted and cared for by someone again. However, as we know, Danny has a dangerous past with drugs.
“Will Sarah get dragged down this path again?” Katie asked.
Emmerdale spoilers: Sarah lies to the police
Ethan’s (Emile John) father, Charles (Kevin Mathurin) appeared last week when he conducted Chas and Paddy’s wedding at the last minute when Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton) pulled out.
While his father is a man of God, Ethan is a man of the law but his world is turned upside down when he comes into contact with Sarah.
Previous spoilers have already revealed how Sarah plants drugs on Ethan when in the Woolpack, and he has some explaining to do to both the police and his father.
Emile explained: “Ethan’s arrival is far from quiet and he soon finds himself at the mercy of the Dingles. But that’s not all.
“We’ll soon find out more about Ethan and his past which could have huge consequences for others.
“I’ve loved playing Ethan so far and I can’t wait to see where the character is heading,” the actor said.
Emmerdale spoilers: The characters involved
The teenager has always been on the sidelines of Emmerdale’s biggest storylines, but this year, she will take centre stage.
Leanna (Mimi Slinger) is missing Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) who has been staying in Portugal.
Meanwhile, her friendship with Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) is strained after everything that went on with her father, Dr Liam Cavanagh (Johnny McPherson) and Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi).
But can Leanna put what happened behind her and repair her broken friendship with Gabby?
As for her romance, will it withstand the distance of being parted from Jacob?
Mimi said: “Leanna has found herself quite isolated with Jacob’s absence and she’ll be sure to question whether their relationship is strong enough to last the distance.
“I love playing Leanna, she has so many layers to her and I’m looking forward to exploring her story further.”
2020 has been tough for Amelia (Daisy Campbell), and she found herself stepping up to the plate as a full time carer for her injured, destitute dad Dan Spencer (Liam Fox).
With money so tight, Emmerdale viewers saw Amelia resorted to crime.
Can she be free from the woes of their financial problems and worries about her father’s health?
Daisy revealed: “I’m looking forward to seeing Amelia grow up and mature over 2021.
“It would be nice to see her have some happiness this year and for it not be quite as tough going for her.
“But I love working with my second dad and seeing how Amelia responds to the responsibilities put on her by her dad’s ongoing situation,” the actress said.
Samson (Sam Hall) hasn’t been seen very much in Emmerdale this year after he spent much of it in France following a school trip.
While he was stuck across the borders, he found romance, but he will have to leave her behind in order to settle back home.
In the coming weeks Samson will be influenced by Noah, but could there be serious repercussions for this impressionable teen.
“It’s great being Samson and part of the Dingles,” actor Sam said.
“Sam will take a big risk this coming year by helping his cousin Noah. He might be bringing himself a lot of trouble, only time will tell!”
Gabby has struggled to find her place over the last few months.
Fans will remember how she almost lost Dr Liam his career, messed up things with Leyla and found herself alone and out in the cold. With Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) and Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) still coming to terms with their recently sad decision to terminate their pregnancy, could Gabby set her sights towards Home Farm and handsome Jamie Tate (Alexander Lincoln)?
And could Kim Tate (Claire King) recognise something of herself in this cunning and clever girl?
Rosie explained: “Gabby has had her fair share of trouble over the past year, but if she’s hoping 2021 is going to be a more settled year, she can think again.
“I’m excited that Gabby is at the heart of the village as she sets her sights on Home Farm and I can tell you this year is going to hold even more drama for Gabby than ever,” the actress added.
Emmerdale airs tonight at 7pm on ITV.
