Game of Thrones books: George RR Martin on ASOIAF scene in TV show he was NOT happy with

With A Song of Ice and Fire’s volumes being vast in length, it’s not too surprising that had to trim some of the fat. However, there was one scene from the books that ended up being ’s least favourite of the TV show because of how it was adapted. The 72-year-old makes the reveal in new official book Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the author said: “Where we really fell down in terms of budget was my least favourite scene in the entire show, in all eight seasons: King Robert goes hunting.

“Four guys walking on foot through the woods carrying spears and Robert is giving Renly s***.”

However, ASOIAF fans will know that in the books the King goes hunting and then there’s word he was gored by a boar before being brought back for his death scene.

Martin admitted he never wrote a hunting scene but had hoped the TV show would be more accurate according to medieval history.

Martin said: “I don’t like to provide easy answers.

“I like to make the reader wrestle with the question and think about it.

“Because some of these questions never are easy when we encounter them in real life.”

During the lockdown, Martin has spent much of 2020 in his remote mountain cabin.

There, he’s been busy working on The Winds of Winter, as he gives regular updates to fans on his blog.

The 72-year-old says how he has one assistant stay with him at a time as he keeps writing, while his latest deadline is hoping to publish the new book in 2021 if he can.

After that, Martin will pen a Dunk and Egg short story as a palate cleanser before tackling his ASOIAF finale in A Dream of Spring.

When that’s done, he plans to write another Dunk and Egg before tackling Fire and Blood Volume 2.
