WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD FOR NO TIME TO DIE. In the run-up to the release of Daniel Craig’s fifth and final 007 movie, The Official James Bond Podcast was launched to tease No Time To Die. And now the movie’s been out for over two months, a special episode came out today delving into the secrets of the blockbuster and its shocking ending.

No Time To Die saw Craig’s Bond dying in a missile strike on Safin’s island after making sure that his lover Madeleine Swann and their daughter Mathilde were safely off.

Looking back on 007’s first death scene, the 53-year-old star said: “There were lots of different ideas that came and went and some of it stuck. The through-line of this is family and love… plus the fact we had an end… so it was about hanging the film off that.

“It’s a massive collaborative effort…That was the headline really: just make it better. So we all input into it in varying ways. I tend not to shut up or keep my mouth shut about things and the only reason I want to get involved is because I just want it to be the best it can be.

“And [director] Cary [Fukunaga] was a hell of a collaborator, so that was very satisfying when we figured things out. It was really very, very satisfying.”

Bond producer Michael G Wilson said he thought having Craig’s Bond die was “the right way to go.

“I think all of us discussed that it seemed like a situation that we could tackle for the first time in the Bond series.

“Daniel had said, after the fourth one [Spectre], he didn’t want to come back and Barbara [Broccoli] got a hold of him.”

She said to him: “Look, there’s something more to be told here, and we should finish this out’.”

According to Mail Online, the new No Time To Die edition of The James Bond Archives book saw Craig share that he wanted his 007 to die when he signed on to the role 15 years ago.

The outgoing star is quoted as saying: “When I started as Bond on Casino Royale, one of the early discussions I had with Barbara and Michael was that I would like to be killed off when I am finished.”

The end credits of the new blockbuster concluded with “James Bond Will Return”, but the question is how?

No Time To Die is available to rent on Amazon and iTunes now and is physically released to buy on December 20, 2021.
