James Maslow of Big Time Rush is set to headline and executive produce “Unbound,” a globe-spanning unscripted adventure series from TSMA Studios, launching exclusively on YouTube. #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the scoop.
The multi‑platform series follows the Big Time Rush alum as he travels the world, teaming with experts, celebrities, athletes and creators to take on high‑intensity, once‑in‑a‑lifetime experiences.
“When I started in this industry, television was the gold standard,” Maslow remarks. “Today, I believe YouTube holds that place— a platform where anyone can bring their imagination to life. After 20 years of nonstop work, ‘Unbound’ has let me turn long-neglected hobbies and adventures into something meaningful. It’s been my excuse to have fun again. This year I’ve reconnected with old friends, lived more life, and helped create something special. And maybe it’s just the beginning—there are a few more shows I’d love to produce for friends next.”
In each episode, Maslow throws himself into a new challenge, learning by doing and pushing his physical and mental limits while exploring local culture through real human connection and adrenaline‑fueled exploration. Episodes are designed as immersive adventures that blend travel, lifestyle, and personal growth, speaking both to his longtime fans and a broader audience of adventure‑seekers.
Season 1, filmed across Los Angeles, Nashville, Miami and Hawaii, features guests including Jaime Camil (Jane the Virgin, La Fea Mas Bella), fitness icon Mike O’Hearn, firearms training company Taran Tactical, racecar driver Ryan Phinny and digital creator Alvaro Nunez, with adventures ranging from racecar driving and tactical training to exploring the Everglades.
Season 2 is planned to expand internationally with episodes spanning Asia, including Japan and South Korea, where the show will dive into everything from high‑energy pop culture to deeply rooted traditions and cross‑cultural discovery.
A third season is being developed to take place in Israel, where Maslow, a proud member of the Jewish community, will train with and spotlight competitors at the Maccabiah Games, exploring the intersection of identity, culture and sport.
“Unbound” is built as a franchise across YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and X, with full episodes premiering on YouTube and complementary short‑form clips, highlights and behind‑the‑scenes content rolling out across social platforms.
The project marks the next evolution of Maslow’s move into personality‑driven, unscripted storytelling, designed from the ground up as a scalable global adventure brand.
“Unbound comes at a time where there isn’t enough exciting, adventurous, exploration-focused content on the Internet… and it is very much needed. James is quite literally removing the boundaries set for him most of his life, and inspiring others to do the same,” says series director Ryan Walker.
James Maslow rose to prominence as a member of the multi‑platinum pop group Big Time Rush, which was formed alongside the hit Nickelodeon series of the same name and became a global touring act. He parlayed that success into an acting career with roles in television and film while continuing to release music with the band’s reunion and as a solo artist.
In recent years, Maslow has expanded into digital and unscripted projects, leveraging his profile to build experiential content that blends performance, lifestyle and real‑world exploration, a trajectory he now continues with “Unbound.”
