New James Bond: Tom Hardy risks losing top spot to superhero star

No Time To Die brought a definitive end to Daniel Craig‘s James Bond story last year. The star had enjoyed five films as 007, but it is time for the character to move on under the guise of a new actor. And although Tom Hardy has been a favourite for some time, it looks like it’s all about to change in the Bond odds.

BBC actor James Norton currently has some incredible odds from Ladbrokes on taking over as Bond in the coming months. The star has been a long favourite in the list of British actors, and currently has an impressive 6/1 on taking over from Craig.

He is joined, neck-and-neck, by legendary Brit Idris Elba. The Pacific Rim actor recently made waves in Hollywood by playing Bloodshot in The Suicide Squad. And he has most recently been filming new scenes for his detective show Luther. With this growing popularity, he also has an impressive 6/1 on becoming the international super-spy.

But it is another superhero who seems to be closing in on Hardy.

Henry Cavill, of The Witcher fame, has recently had a big spike in popularity.

The British actor broke through Hollywood when he played Superman in 2013’s Man Of Steel. Since then, he has become the King of Nerd Culture, playing Geralt of Rivia in the aforementioned Netflix show, as well as announcing his obsession with Warhammer to the world.

And the actor’s latest set of odds currently threatens the top of the leaderboard.

Speaking on Graham Norton last month, Cavill said: “I would definitely have a conversation [about becoming Bond]. From what I understand, there’s very very early conversations happening at the top at MGM, there’s no list yet.” Whether or not he’s in the conversation, punters are eager to see him don the tuxedo and take his martinis shaken, not stirred.

For now, he is only behind two other actors, one of which is Hardy.

Hardy currently has an incredible 7/2 on claiming the role. But he is struggling to overtake the Bridgerton actor who hasn’t shifted for some time.

Regé-Jean Page is currently top dog in the Bond odds with an enormous 11/4. The star recently confirmed he is “flattered” by the Bond comparisons, but explained he has not been approached (yet?).

Despite this, with such a robust career behind him, could it be time for Page to become the next spy?

James Bond No Time To Die is out now.
