After five 007 movies over 15 years, Daniel Craig’s time as James Bond came to an end in No Time To Die. It’s been a very long time since there were last auditions to be the next Bond, but producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli will have to get going sooner or later if they haven’t already. One thing is clear, they’ve said that to respect Ian Fleming’s source material, the spy must be played by a man.

Broccoli has said she wants a British male to play Bond, even though there’s also been the Irish Pierce Brosnan and Australian George Lazenby.

The producer has also said in a number of interviews that the 007 star can be of any race, so the next Bond could be the first non-white actor in the role.

But now in a new interview Broccoli has shared that she’s open to a non-binary person playing the iconic role.

Appearing on the Girls On Film podcast, host Anna Smith asked her if Bond would always be male.

However, in the 2021 version of West Side Story, Anybodys is reimagined as non-binary, rejecting a female label shared by one of the Jets at her in the movie.

As a result of the change, the musical blockbuster has been banned in some Middle Eastern countries.

Homosexuality is illegal in the Gulf states, which means that movies featuring LGBTQ people or issues are often censored or edited.

Requests were made by some of the countries for scenes to be removed, but Warner Bros have refused.
