Olympic Coach Peter Andrew has launched an Innovative Swim Program at American Renaissance Academy in Kapolei, Hawaii. #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the scoop.
American Renaissance Academy (ARA), a private, non-profit college preparatory school in West O‘ahu, proudly welcomes Olympic swim coach Peter Andrew to its growing athletics program. Arriving in Kapolei on August 1, Andrew will lead the launch of ARA’s new Professional and Age Group Swim Teams — and embark on a bold new chapter in sprint training.
Best known as the longtime coach and father of Olympic gold medalist, world champion, and world record holder swimmer Michael Andrew, Coach Peter Andrew is widely recognized for his use of Ultra-Short Race-Pace Training (USRPT) — a science-based training method developed by Dr. Brent Rushall that focuses exclusively on race-specific performance.
While USRPT helped produce one of the most explosive sprint careers in American swimming, Andrew now turns his attention to what he considers “unfinished business”: exploring how to effectively implement pure race-pace training in a team setting.
“This opportunity is a dream come true,” Peter Andrew said. “For over a decade, I’ve seen how powerful USRPT can be — but only in the context of training one athlete. Now, I finally get the chance to test how this method can be applied across an entire team. That challenge is something I’ve long wanted to take on. It’s the missing piece in my coaching journey.”
With full support from ARA’s leadership, Andrew has been given complete freedom to experiment, adapt, and refine race-pace-based methodologies in a real-world team environment.
Tina Andrew, will serve as the Aquatics Director, supporting program operations as Peter focuses on athlete development and training design.
But Andrew doesn’t intend to do this in isolation. He plans to document the journey publicly — sharing insights, questions, and breakthroughs via his social media channels and inviting input from coaches and swimmers across the globe.
“I know the sport and race pace-based training has continued to evolve during my time away,” Andrew noted. “Many have advanced in this space, and I’m excited to learn, share, and collaborate. This will be an open lab, and I’m inviting the swimming community to follow along, offer feedback, and challenge ideas. Let’s push sprint training forward — together.”
Be Part of the Next Evolution in Sprint Training. The ARA Swim Program welcomes: Age Group Swimmers seeking a data-driven, performance-focused training model Elite and Professional Athletes looking for a world-class training base in Hawaii Teams looking for pre-season camp, performance or staging camp or warm weather training retreat, Swimmers and coaches curious about USRPT who want to visit, observe, or participate in specialized camps.
“This is more than a team launch,” said Daimon Hudson, Executive Chairman of the Board at ARA. “We’re building something truly special — and giving one of swimming’s most innovative minds the freedom to build it the right way. We invite athletes from across the islands and beyond to come see what’s happening here in Kapolei.”
Follow the Journey. Train the Future.
