One Direction ‘will reunite’ – but not as you know them

One Direction went on an indefinite hiatus back in 2016, a year after Zayn Malik left the band. Since then, fans of the band have been yearning for the group to reunite and continue taking over the world with their music. All of the former stars have gone on to enjoy solo careers, making a reunion unlikely, but one chart-topping singer thinks it’s inevitable.

Ed Sheeran recently appeared on Capital Radio’s show Quizface, hosted by Jimmy Hill.

The star was asked a number of questions about himself, the music industry, and everything in between.

During the chat Ed was asked: “When will Once Direction come off hiatus?”

And his response was surprising. He replied: “They will come off hiatus.”

However, Ed was quick to stamp out every shred of hope he just created. Ed added: “But it won’t be the five of them, I think. I think it will be like a Take That situation.” The “Take That situation” he is referring to is the infamous reunion of the boy band without Robbie Williams. Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Jason Orange and Mark Owen resurrected the band in 2005 after almost ten years apart. But Williams didn’t join them.

Malik added that he has “four friends for life” in Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne.

The rest of the band announced: “We’re really sad to see Zayn go, but we totally respect his decision and send him all our love for the future.

“The past five years have been beyond amazing, we’ve gone through so much together, so we will always be friends. The four of us will now continue. We’re looking forward to recording the new album and seeing all the fans on the next stage of the world tour.”

Since then, rumours have surrounded a reunion for One Direction.

Tomlinson even recently hinted that the gang will get back together in the near future.

He commemorated the band’s anniversary on Twitter saying: “11 years since my first audition! I had no idea on that day just how much would have changed between then and now.

“Thank you to everyone who’s been there for me along the way! We’re only just getting started!”
