PS5 and Xbox Series X price delay: More BAD NEWS for next-gen pre-order customers

The and release dates are mere months away, and yet we still don’t have an exact launch date or price for either of the next-gen consoles.

Sadly, it doesn’t look like this will change anytime soon, as both companies wait for the other to make the first move.

Indeed, according to a Microsoft spokesperson on Twitter, the Xbox Series X platform holder will announce the price when ready.

One fan tweeted: “I do find it a bit crazy that nether Xbox or Playstation have revealed prices yet when the consoles are about 2 months away.

“People gotta know what they gonna be paying. I know this decision isn’t down to you but I still think its being left very very late.”

Xbox marketing executive Samuel Bateman replied: “I understand everyone is excited to know and people want to plan purchases etc. We’ll let you all know when we’re ready.”

The delay in revealing next-gen console prices likely dates back to the release of the PS4 and Xbox One.

Microsoft controversially announced a $499 price tag for the Xbox One during its E3 conference back in 2013.

Sony would subsequently announce a $399 price tag for the PS4 just days later.

While many factors played a part in the downfall of the Xbox One, the lower price of the PS4 would help Sony gain an advantage.

Microsoft clearly doesn’t want to hand Sony another advantage in the next-gen console war, and vice-versa.

Previous rumours have suggested both consoles will cost around $499 when they launch in November.

Other rumours suggest Microsoft and Sony will release multiple versions of their next-gen consoles, all with varying price points.

While price and release date details remain under wraps, Sony and Microsoft have been forthcoming about next-gen console features.

The PS5, for example, will support ray-tracing technology and have much faster loading times.

The speedy (or non-existent) loading times are possible thanks to the custom solid-state drive, which will make a huge difference to processing speeds.

In Spider-Man on a PS4 Pro, for example, it can take upwards of 15 seconds to fast travel from one location to another. The PS5, on the other hand, will be able to handle the same task in less than a second.

Worlds can also be rendered at far greater speeds, which should inject more pace into games.
