Ryan Ray Vincent sat down and chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos at Loews Hollywood Hotel about starring in “Rise of the Caged King” on ReelShort.
The synopsis is: Once a business elite, Silas Reid (Ryan Ray Vincent) is framed for murder by his rival, Chase, and his own wife Marina (Janelle Yull).
Sentenced to 60 years, Silas endures brutal humiliation from prison bullies until he meets Grayson, a legendary mafia godfather in hiding. Grayson trains him in lethal combat and helps reduce his sentence in exchange for a future favor of revenge.
‘Rise of the Caged King’
On starring in “Rise of the Caged King,” he remarked, “It was a really awesome opportunity because ReelShort put a lot of faith in me doing a project that was more for a male audience. You know, it wasn’t focused on romance as much, although there were some elements of that, but it really gave me an opportunity to have kind of a revenge story that was for a male audience.”
“It is about a man who is trying to get back to his daughter,” he said. “So, it was really sweet, and it had a lot of fight choreography, which was a lot of fun.”
“You got to see a turn where you go from kind of the good man who hasn’t explored the depths of himself yet, and they got to go there and kick some ass. So, it was a lot of fun,” he added.
Working with Katelyn Rose
Vincent had great words about working with Katelyn Rose as a leading lady. “Katelyn was wonderful… she has set the world on fire. I have nothing but incredible things to say about her… she is professional, fun to be around, striking and she has great energy. For her age, she has so much time to sharpen her tools, and I believe she has the best chance of becoming a huge star. If that happens, you’ve heard it first for me.”
Playing his character
Vincent was drawn to his character, Silas, for several reasons. “I think I could relate to him on a whole new level,” he noted. “When I was young, I was very charismatic, but I was really thin and there was a period in time when I was picked on a lot.”
“As I got older and I started to take care of myself more fitness-wise, and I had more an adult approach, and I had new confidence. So, with that character, I felt like he was that way,” he acknowledged.
“He was doing all the things for everybody else, and then he found something inside him. So, I can relate. There was something about that that felt more personal than some of the other roles that I may have gotten myself into,” he added.
Lessons learned from the screenplay
On the lessons learned from the screenplay, he reflected, “I don’t know that it taught me anything new about myself, but it was really interesting to get to portray something that felt very real.”
“I think a lot of people can watch and relate to that story as well. It’s not as full of tropes and far-fetched ideas. It was pretty grounded in a practical life, which I think was why people resonated with it,” he added.
Closing thoughts on the vertical
For his fans, he said about “Rise of the Caged King,” “I want this project to give them a moment of escape from whatever it is that they are going through in their personal lives.”
“Some things are overwhelming, and sometimes you just need a little reason to laugh or to feel something or be excited and or to be inspired,” he concluded.
Ryan Ray Vincent signs with Untitled Entertainment
In other Ryan Ray Vincent news, the “Blonde” alum actor has signed with Untitled Entertainment for management. Vincent, who has also starred as the lead in more than 25 vertical films, recently appeared opposite John Waters in “Boomslang” and its follow-up “Boomslang 2,” a Cannes official nominee.
