Samsung finally reveals the Galaxy S21 FE, just don’t be upset by its price

It’s been a very long time coming but Samsung fans have finally got their first official glimpse of the new Galaxy S21 FE (Fan Edition). This latest device has been rumoured for months with many expecting it to be unveiled last year but that launch never came. Instead, Samsung has waited for the CES technology show to get underway with the company lifting the lid on the S21 FE under the bright lights of Las Vegas.

Just like the original Galaxy S20 FE, the new S21 FE offers a swathe of premium features at a lower price than its flagship S21 sibling. However, before you get too excited about taking delivery of a shiny new smartphone on a budget things aren’t quite as cheap as they were before.

When Samsung launched its S20 FE it offered a standard 4G version for just £599 which was a bit of a bargain considering its sizeable spec sheet.

This year there is no 4G model meaning things start from a rather hefty £699 – that’s only £70 cheaper than the more premium Galaxy S21.

If that high price hasn’t got your credit card wobbling then the new FE does come with some pretty impressive features including a 6.4-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED with a 120Hz refresh rate. That means you’ll get a silky smooth experience when scrolling through websites or playing the latest games.

Spin the device around and you’ll find a triple-lens camera that can snap wide-angle and close up shots.

This camera is built for ease of use with it able to automatically boost night shots and even remove things or people that might have ruined the family holiday photo.

There’s even dual recording which allows both the front and rear cameras to record simultaneously.

Other features packed inside the S21 FE include a larger 4,500mAh battery which can be charged wirelessly plus there’s an embedded fingerprint scanner under the screen and a speedy 5nm 64-bit Octa-Core Processor.

If all that sounds exciting then the S21 FE will go on sale from January 11 with those buying one getting three months of access to Disney+ for free.

The standard 128GB model costs £699 with a 256GB version going on sale for £749. There will be a total of four colours to choose from including Graphite, Olive, Lavender or White.

Speaking about the launch, James Kitto, Vice President of Sales, Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland: “We’ve seen an incredible response to the Galaxy S21 Family, and are pleased to announce the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, bringing our latest mobile innovations to even more people.

“We’ve applied the same approach with S21 FE that we did to its predecessor, but have taken it to the next level by equipping it with the premium features that matter most to our loyal Galaxy fans, providing the latest mobile innovations that enable people to fully enjoy each day.”
