Samsung reveals new Galaxy S20 Fan Edition and you’ll be surprised by the price

If you’ve just splashed out on a Galaxy S20, look away now. After weeks of rumours, Samsung has finally revealed the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition, which gets some mightily impressive specs for its sub-£600 price tag. At that price, the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is around £200 cheaper the standard Galaxy S20 model that launched a little over six month ago. As the name suggests, we’ll wager the fans will really love this one as don’t think for one minute that a cheaper price tag means Samsung has cut corners.

This new Galaxy S20 smartphone benefits from a number of flagship features found on the standard Galaxy S20 model, including a 6.5in Super AMOLED screen with a slick 120Hz high-refresh rate. That should make scrolling through content stutter-free and keep the latest fast-paced games feel responsive and silky smooth.

Spin around the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition, or FE as Samsung refers to it, there’s also a triple rear camera which offers wide, ultra-wide and telephoto lenses. In fact, this new phone offers a 3x lossless optical zoom as well as a 30x digital “Space Zoom” to ensure you’re never too far away from the action to get a decent photo. As you’d expect at this price point, there’s also support for bokeh-filled portrait modes, which Samsung calls Live Focus images.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition also boats night mode multi-frame processing for better reesults in the gloom – without blinding your friends with the LED flash. AI frame integration stabilizes motion in-shot while you record, so even footage shot while you’re jogging looks as if it was captured from a tripod.

Head under the hood and you’ll find a huge 4,500mAh battery along with two processor options. If you opt for the standard 4G model you’ll get Samsung’s own Exynos 990 processor, but upgrade to the 5G variant and you’ll get the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor tucked inside. Samsung doesn’t even offer this top-tier chipset inside its much, much more expensive Galaxy S20 Ultra smartphone.

Some other extras worth mentioning include a water-resistant design, Super Fast Charging and Wireless PowerShare which allows the phone to refill other devices and accessories such as Samsung earbuds.

As we mentioned earlier there is the chance to add 5G for £100 extra which might be worth considering if you want access to speedy downloads. Also, if you’re looking to keep your smartphone for the next three or four years, it’s well worth splashing the extra cash to ensure your new handset is futureproofed.

The entry-level 4G-only version of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition will cost £599, while the 5G-enabled S20 FE costs £699, which is pretty good value considering the spec sheet.

Samsung is also offering the S20 SE in a number of colours including Cloud Navy, Cloud White, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Orange, Cloud Red.

Speaking about the launch, Conor Pierce, Corporate Vice President, Samsung UK and Ireland, said: “We are constantly speaking to our customers and know there is demand for a smartphone that takes stunning photos and can perform all day, at a competitive price point. Galaxy S20 FE is an extension of the Galaxy S20 family, designed to bring flagship features to a wider audience. Equipped with 5G, we have future-proofed the device so our customers can enjoy the incredible innovation we know this technology will bring to our everyday lives.”

The Galaxy S20 Fan Edition will be available starting October 2, 2020 in the UK. Both the 4G and 5G-enabled models will be available from a range of high street and online stores, as well as from Samsung itself.
