Sick of Windows 11? Google has a FREE alternative ready to install on your PC

“The free upgrade your PCs and Macs have been waiting for,” Google claims “Install Chrome OS Flex on your PCs and Macs so they are secure, boot fast, don’t slow down over time, update automatically in the background, and can be managed from the cloud.”

Chrome OS Flex is built from the same code as the version of Chrome OS that you’re already familiar with and, according to Google, using the new version of the operating system on an older Windows or macOS machine should feel no different than loading up a Chromebook. However, since the hardware that you’re using wasn’t originally designed for Chrome OS Flex, there are some features that might not work.

Always-on Google Assistant – which lets you summon the chatty AI assistant with the wake phrase “Hey, Google” – and the ability to drag-and-drop images from your nearby Android smartphone might not be available on all hardware, for example.

If you’ve got an older machine at home that’s struggling with its Windows or macOS operating system, you can try out Chrome OS Flex right now. Google says that it has designed Chrome OS Flex for businesses and schools to repurpose older hardware that might otherwise go unused – or need to be replaced.
