Snowpiercer season 2: Fans feud over illogical season premiere: ‘I don’t get this’

TNT and Netflix are once again going full steam ahead with another round of Snowpiercer, a cutting class commentary set during an icy apocalypse. Season two is hoped to improve on the issues of the first season with the introduction of Lord of the Rings star Sean Bean, but viewers have already levelled a number of complaints at the premiere.

Snowpiercer fans have once again spotted a number of glaring plot holes in the first episode of the show’s highly anticipated second season.

Episode one, ‘The Time of Two Engines’, saw Melanie Cavill (played by Jennifer Connelly) and Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) finally come face-to-face with Mr. Wilford (Sean Bean), the mysterious engineer.

Unfortunately, as the episode went on, viewers raised a number of issues with the premiere’s outlandish action scenes and poor logic.

The debate was waged on Reddit as the episode aired on TNT on Monday night, with episodes coming to the UK the following Tuesday on Netflix.

Redditor ironmanmk42 kicked off the discussion when they proposed a simple solution to stopping Wilfred’s mutiny in the opening episode.

They said: “Okay, I don’t get this. They had the power to decouple cars.

“Why couldn’t they have just decoupled or even now decouple say the last 3 or 4 or even 10 cars and put the brakes on them, blown the windows open and run away?”

Hitting back, other fans suggested Wilford could have more control over the train than they might think.

As the episode went on, much of the audience were excited to see the series fully commit to some of the stranger sci-fi tropes of the original source material, though others were left a little confused.

The biggest reactions came when Mr. Wilford unveiled his ultimate weapon, a monstrous human experiment dubbed ‘Icy Bob’.

Wilford’s threatening behemoth is sure to cause trouble for the rest of the series, though his introduction caused some puzzled fans to question where the mutant came from.

On Twitter, one fan mused: “Okay, so BOB is clearly not normal, right? Experimented on?”

“You think he maybe had a similar situation to the guy who was put in the medic drawers??”

And another warned: “Mr. Wilford has all the power. They still haven’t figured it out.

“His world and he’s their God. They’re gonna have to kill him and his monster Bob.”

In his first appearance, Wilford has already demonstrated he has no empathy for anyone other than himself, so it’s entirely possible the twisted inventor has started experimenting on the Snowpiercer’s passengers.

Snowpiercer season 2 continues Mondays on TNT and the following Tuesday on Netflix.
