At the end of the year Spider-Man 3: No Way Home will hit cinemas, continuing Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland) journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Recently, rumours have been flying that his upcoming mind-bending film will not only include Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), but previous Spider-Men actors as well.

Included in this line-up is Tobey Maguire who played Spider-Man from 2002 to 2007.

He is rumoured to be joined by Andrew Garfield who played the wall-crawler from 2012 to 2014.

While their parts in No Way Home have not been confirmed or denied just yet, one character from the Sam Raimi universe is confirmed to be returning: J Jonah Jameson.

The media mogul will, once again, be played by the incredible JK Simmons.

Simmons recently spoke out in an interview about returning to the series proper after his brief cameo in Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019.

He said: “To have the opportunity to kind of do a reboot of the character, I was eager to hang on to the things I really loved about it and totally open to letting go of some of that, and realising we are in a more updated version of that universe.”

He added: “Hopefully, we found the sweet spot there.” (via Den Of Geek)

The Whiplash star also touched upon the differences between his Raimi version of JJJ and this newer iteration.

Simmons said: “Those movies with Sam will always be big highlights of my career and my life.

“Sam is one of my favourite directors and human beings.”

He isn’t the only person from the Raimi-verse that is making a return to the same character in No Way Home.

Doctor Octopus star Alfred Molina previously spoke out about reprising his role of Dr Otto Octavious earlier this year.

Molina told Variety: “When we were shooting it, we were all under orders not to talk about it, because it was supposed to be some great big secret. But, you know, it’s all over the internet. I actually described myself as the worst kept secret in Hollywood!”

Speaking about his triumphant return as the villainous eight-limbed evildoer, Molina commented: “It was wonderful.

“It was very interesting going back after 17 years to play the same role, given that in the intervening years, I now have two chins, a wattle, crow’s feet and a slightly a slightly dodgy lower back.”

Spider-Man: No Way Home hits cinemas on December 17, 2021.
