Star Wars: Robert Downey Jr ‘rumoured to be joining Kevin Feige spin-off movie’

Star Wars fans were truly thrilled by the Disney Plus series The Mandalorian this year. One of the standout moments in the second series was the arrival of Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), who helped Mando (Pedro Pascal) courier his child, Grogu, to Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). During Ahsoka’s arrival, however, she did mention she was looking for Admiral Thrawn – a noted villain from TV show Star Wars: Rebels.

Thrawn has never been shown off in live action Star Wars, but the latest rumours from Hollywood suggest he will be the main feature of one of the upcoming movies.

One of the as-of-yet unnamed new Star Wars movies is going to be produced by Marvel executive Kevin Feige.

With this in mind, it has since been suggested that Feige will be helming a new Star Wars movie about Thrawn.

Even more exciting, there are also Disney insiders claiming Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr could be taking on the role of Thrawn in said movie.

Downey Jr has been out of work since his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe came to an end in 2019.

With Iron Man dead and buried, finding a role in yet another long-running franchise would certainly be an attractive notion to the star.

And, according to a report from What Culture, he may be taking on this legendary role.

However, the publication does go on to say that this rumour has been debunked by one Hollywood source, so it is anyone’s guess at the moment.

The latest Star Wars book, The Empire Strikes Back: From a Certain Point of View, delved into some of the untold stories of the fifth Star Wars movie.

During the story “The First Lesson”, Yoda comes into contact with Luke for the first time.

It had previously been suggested that TESB contained a massive plot hole, as Yoda never acknowledged R2-D2, despite having known him very well from the prequel trilogy.

This novel explained how this was not a plot hole, but apparently a well-thought-out situation.

The story shows Yoda spotting Luke and the droid, before realising he must pretend he has never met them before.

The book reads: “Carefully moving through the swamp while staying beneath the fog, Yoda soon spotted the boy and his droid unpacking their supplies.

“Even though the droid was caked with algae, dirt, and stomach fluid, its appearance and familiar blips were still quite recognisable.v Of course the boy [Luke] had Anakin’s old droid with him. Such cycles of fate no longer surprised the nine-hundred-year-old Jedi.”

The Star Wars films are available on Disney Plus now.
