However, she has had quite the character development, while she is still known as Alfred’s villainous wife, Aelswith has had a major transformation.
This started with Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon), Aelswith initially wanted him dead after he interrupted Alfred’s prayer and although the two were friends, she suggested his punishment should be death.
However, this changed during season four, when her son with Alfred, Edward (Timothy Innes) became King which led her to realise she needed an ally in Uhtred.
Aelswith was able to recognise her mistake for persecuting him for his pagan beliefs and started to recognise what he Uhtred did for her family.
