Tom Hardy is one of the favourites to play the next James Bond after Daniel Craig in No Time To Die. The 43-year-old Venom star has been odds-on for 007 at several bookmakers at different points in the last year. And now one of his Al Capone movie co-stars has backed him to take up the Licence To Kill next.

In the new Netflix movie, Tilda Del Toro plays Mona Lisa opposite Hardy’s Capone, embodying the former lovers of the real-life gangster.

And when speaking with Express.co.uk this week, we asked if she thought her co-star had what it takes to play Bond.

She replied: “Absolutely yes! I’m rooting for him to be the next James Bond for sure, I would love that.

“I just think he’s so unique and different. He’s raw and handsome at the same time; so committed.”

In recent years, the Bond franchise under Daniel Craig has become quite gritty and serious – which of course has its place – but Tilda thinks Hardy would also reinvigorate the humour of the Roger Moore 007 films.

The Capone actress said: “He’s also a bit of a jokester. I think he’d be really good with his charm.

“He likes to joke, he’s got quite a sense of humour.”

She added that he’d bring his cheeky chap personality to Bond, but without giving up the grit of the Craig era.

Imagine a Tom Hardy Bond scene, Tilda added: “You know what I mean? And then like chaos around him and he’d just be calm and collected having his breakfast.

“He’s a very serious actor who takes his work very seriously but he still has the ability to have that.”

Speaking of her time working with Hardy on the Capone set, the Mona Lisa actress highlighted just how committed to the title role Hardy was.

In fact, during rehearsals when Tilda had to slap the A-lister, she didn’t realise how hard she was hitting him.

Tilda remembered: “I came in and pulled Tom towards me and slapped him and then I pushed him on the couch. The couch was a little lighter than in the scene because it was a production couch and it flew all the way back! We kept doing the scene and then Josh yelled ‘Cut!’”

There was silence on the set until the director said to her: “Tilda, I do NOT want to mess with you!” Everyone burst into fits of laughter and Hardy said: “You slap way harder than Linda Cardellini [Mae Capone star]!”

Nevertheless, Tilda said how gracious the Hollywood A-lister was about it and asked if he was okay. To her surprise, Hardy replied: “Do it! Do whatever you need!” He looked at the Mona Lisa actress and joked, “Hey? Why lie?” She added: “He was open to it and he was okay with it and he was just so conscious.”

Capone is now streaming on Netflix UK.
