The Tourist will be making its debut on New Year’s Day, January 1, on BBC One. The miniseries will be following The Man (played by Jamie Dornan), a British ex-pat that is run off the road and suffering from amnesia. The show takes viewers through some harsh locations, and Express.co.uk has all the details on the behind-the-scenes of the show.
Where is The Tourist filmed?
The Tourist will be following the travels of The Man, an elusive figure that can’t remember who he is, where he came from, or even what his name is.
The show picks up with The Man while he is driving across the Australian outback, with the entire series set in the country.
In fact, the production actually travelled to Australia for filming, adding to the authenticity of the programme.
Most of the principal photography took place in South Australia, in and around many of the towns and cities of the region.
Some of these locations include Port Augusta, Quorn, and Peterborough, and Adelaide.
Steve Marshall, South Australia’s Premier said that filming took place over 17 weeks and that it was the biggest TV production the area had ever seen.
Speaking to the South Australian Film Corporation, Marshall said: “Securing The Tourist is a real coup for South Australia – not only will it create hundreds of local jobs, (but) it will (also) put South Australia’s remarkable landscape on show right around the world.
“The Tourist will inject an estimated $12.1 million (AUD) into our local economy and provide opportunities to showcase the skills of our local crew here in SA.
However, Dornan wasn’t alone in Australia, as he brought his family along with him – his wife, Amelia Warner, and daughters Dulcie, Elva and Alberta.
The star shared that he has a “two-week rule” for being apart from his family, so the 17-week shoot was more than he could allow.
He said that his children even went to school in Australia and that his 18-year-old daughter, Dulcie, recently celebrated her 18th birthday with an hour and a half Zoom call with her friends from Australia.
The show’s international premiere has not been confirmed, though details are expected to drop in the coming months.
Following the series debut on January 1, the second episode will air on January 2.
All six episodes will air in January, so confirmation on the international release will likely come in February.
Joining Dornan in the cast is Shalom Brune-Franklin as Luci, Damon Herriman as DI Lachlan Rogers, Danielle MacDonald as Helen Chambers, and Alex Dimitriades as Kostas.
The Tourist will premiere on Saturday, January 1, 2022, on BBC One in the UK. The show will debut on HBO Max in early 2022 in the USA.
