Windows 11 gaming: Superior graphics but only with the right TPM and hardware

While things are looky peachy for those hoping to use W11 for their next gaming projects, there will be some limitations.

Windows 11 will be a free upgrade for current Windows 10 users, but Microsoft is changing some of its most basic hardware requirements.

Windows 11 is going to launch with support for 8th Gen and over Intel Core processors, which means there are plenty of people out there who won’t be able to run it or will see warning messages when trying to install it.

From what has been shared so far, Windows 10 users will be able to complete the installation process but will receive a warning regarding the lack of support.

A message from Microsoft covering compatibility adds: “There are new minimum hardware requirements for Windows 11.

“In order to run Windows 11, devices must meet the following specifications. Devices that do not meet the hard floor cannot be upgraded to Windows 11, and devices that meet the soft floor will receive a notification that upgrade is not advised.”

So even with Windows 11 being a free upgrade, many laptop users could find themselves struggling to upgrade and play games using the new features being planned.

Microsoft has already started to hype its new Windows 11 gaming experience, promising fans that there will be superior graphics and game support included.

A message from the tech giant released today, teases: “Games will look better than ever thanks to Auto HDR, a unique capability we’re offering with Windows 11 which automatically adds High Dynamic Range (HDR) enhancements to games built on DirectX 11 or higher that previously only leveraged Standard Dynamic Range (SDR).

“HDR allows a supported game to render a much wider range of brightness values and colors, giving an extra sense of richness and depth to the image.

“We introduced this tech in our Xbox Series X|S consoles and got an outstanding response from creators and players. We’re excited to bring this groundbreaking technology to Windows 11.

“Of course, even the best graphics and speed are nothing without games.

“That’s why we created Xbox Game Pass for PC, a membership which gives you access to a library of over 100 high-quality PC games across genres.

“Game Pass is built to bring the power of games to everyone. And with the Xbox app now built into Windows 11, access to Game Pass is easier than ever.

“The Game Pass library is incredible, and as we announced earlier this month, you can look forward to releases like Halo Infinite, Twelve Minutes, Age of Empires IV, and more this year.”

One big factor ruling what hardware runs W11 will be Microsoft’s policy that requires a TPM, A Trusted Platform Module.

With Windows 11, TPM will need to be enabled, meaning that you will need to find the option on your own laptop if it hasn’t been enabled.

You can check your own hardware by heading over to the official Microsoft site and downloading a Windows Health Checker App.

If your PC fails this test, you will see this message: “Your PC did not meet the needed requirements. You can continue to get Windows 10 updates5 6, or you can shop for a new Windows 10 PC that does meet the requirements.”

Expect more news and coverage regarding hardware requirements for Windows 11 as we get closer to launch, with Microsoft planning a release for around November 2021.
