Global pop music superstar Taylor Swift released her latest studio offering “The Life of a Showgirl” via Republic Records. #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the scoop.

It opens with the mid-tempo yet edgy lead single “The Fate of Ophelia” and it is followed by the lamentful “Elizabeth Taylor,” whose lyrics are conversational but not contrived.

She picks up the pace with the mid-tempo and nonchalant “Opalite” and she pays homage to the late but great Rock and Roll Hall of Famer George Michael with “Father Figure” (which features an interpolation of the classic tune). If one listens closely, it may or may not have been inspired by a former label chair (without naming any names).

The poignant ballad “Eldest Daughter” tugs at the heartstrings, and equally gorgeous is “Ruin The Friendship,” where her breathy, crystalline vocals are pure as the driven snow. It segued into “Actually Romantic,” where she slows down the tempo, and continues with the infectious “Wi$h Li$t” and she shows some attitude on “Wood.”

Swift tackles some of her friends’ scandals in “CANCELLED!” and it is followed by the mellifluous and soothing “Honey.” This 12-track collection closes on a fitting note with the vivacious title track, which is a collaboration with pop princess Sabrina Carpenter.

The Verdict

Overall, Taylor Swift is not afraid to push the envelope and the boundaries of pop music with her newest musical effort “The Life of a Showgirl.” Each track on this album has its own identity, and it is quite refreshing since there is a song on here for every listener.

She is constantly reinventing herself, and it is evident that the pop music throne is still hers. This album should be up for every music award (Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards) and it should be winning everything!
