Actor and TV host Jerry O’Connell chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about starring in the new movie “Summer’s Last Resort” for Tubi.

Melanie Scrofano directed the film from a screenplay by Emily Andras.

Aside from O’Connell, the cast features Sofia Bush, Violet McGraw, Tim Rozon, Clara Alexandrova, Dawian van der Westhuizen, and Max Botha.

The synopsis is: Determined to save her mom from another bad relationship, a teen Summer (Violet McGraw) accidentally turns a luxury vacation into total chaos.

O’Connell immediately analyzed the film’s poster alongside Violet McGraw. “This is Violet’s face; she looks upset and confused, while this is my arm and those are my hands,” he said, while pointing to all those body parts on the movie poster. “This is not AI and I’m ready to party,” he exclaimed.

Playing Glenn in ‘Summer’s Last Resort’

He plays the role of Glenn in “Summer’s Last Resort.” “What I like the most about Glenn is that he is unabashedly happy to be everywhere. He is just happy to be there,” O’Connell said.

“Violet and I only had one emotional scene together, so I wasn’t depressed,” he admitted. “There are roles where you have to cry all the time. This one was more feel-good escapism.”

Lessons learned from the screenplay

On the lessons learned from the screenplay, he reflected, “The screenplay was about 80 pages but I don’t think it taught me anything about myself. We shot it in Africa where we went on a safari.”

“I learned that lions don’t jump into cars that have no windows or anything on them. I also learned that hippos just sit in the water all day. So, we learned a lot about animals,” he added.

Working with Violet McGraw

O’Connell praised Violet McGraw as his scene partner. “Violet really memorizes lines well,” he admitted. “I would always see Violet running lines and everything. I was really impressed with her work. She inspired me to actually sit down and step up my game. Violet was super professional, and an inspiration.”

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his life, he revealed, “Get Through It.”

“This is because my daughters are seniors in high school, and we are just trying to make sure they graduate,” he said. “It is about just getting through it and graduating.”

Success

Regarding his definition of the word success, he said, “Success, to me, just means being happy… Happy not only with my work, but with my personal life, my family, and having time for them.”

“Also, lately I’m really enjoying high-end chocolates. I’m not kidding. I like fancy candy. So, success to me is eating fancy candy as opposed to just regular candy,” he said with a sweet laugh.

Message for the fans

For his fans and supporters, O’Connell expressed, “Thank you for all the support. Check out ‘Summer’s Last Resort.’ We are so proud of this movie, and I hope my fans can follow me back on Instagram. I hope they have fun watching it. I think ti’s a fun little ride.”

“Smile and spend time with your family… laugh together and have fun together. It’s our nation’s 250th birthday. This is a fun summer holiday movie. Summer holiday movie,” he concluded.
