Actors Molly Anderson and Zachary Rist shine in the new vertical drama “Maybe Meant to Be” on WEBTOON. #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the scoop.

They are the leads of the new live action vertical adaptation of the digital comic “Maybe Meant to Be” and they do it justice.

The synopsis is: After years of pressure, a freelance writer Gia (Molly Anderson) impulsely proposes a contract marriage to her childhood friend Percy (Zachary Rist), only to discover that their fictitious marriage may lead to true feelings for each other, and even love.

It is a well-written rom-com with a lot of heart and charm to it; moreover, it strays away from the cliches of more verticals (with slaps and abuse towards women). This one is witty, lighthearted and a great deal of fun.

Molly Anderson is lovely as Gia while Rist is a triumph as Percy. Together, they are both a hoot, and their characters and storyline will resonate with their audience. Hopefully, this is a harbinger that they will do more future projects together.

It is neat to see Rist outside of his comfort zone, and do a rom-com for once… it is evident that he has a knack for this genre of storytelling, especially as he delivers in showcasing his character’s eccentric and quirky personality.

The Verdict

Overall, “Maybe Meant to Be” is an engaging new vertical drama on the new streaming platform WEBTOON. It is worth more than just a passing glance, and it garners an A rating. Prepare to be blown away. This may be a substantial indication that WEBTOON might become vertical viewers’ new guilty pleasure.
