Antonio Andrés Rosello sat down and chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos at Burgerology Midtown about starring in “No Somos Iguales,” which translates into “We Are Not the Same.” It was directed by Jesus Castillo.
The synopsis is: A gay teenager wants to audition for a transvestite character in a play, however, he is afraid that the uninformed society will think that he is like the character, or even that he wants to be a woman.
For his powerful acting performance, Rosello has earned eight “Best Actor” awards for his leading performance as Diego. These includes wins at the Los Angeles Film Awards for “Best Actor in an Indie Film,” the Berlin Indie Film Festival for “Best Actor in a Short Film,” the Independent Shorts Awards International Film Festival for “Best Actor,” the Modern Cinema Festival LA for “Best Actor,” the Cal Film Festival for “Best Actor,” the Creation International Film Festival for “Best Actor in a Short Film,” the Cinema World Fest Awards for “Best Actor in a Short Film,” as well as the International Independent Film Awards for “Diamond Winner, Actor in a Leading Role.”
“This short film has been an amazing journey,” he exclaimed. “This film was shot in Panama back in 2022, and it has been all over the world. It has won me multiple ‘Best Actor’ Awards, and I am very proud of this movie!”
“We just did our West Coast premiere in California at the Indywood International Short Film Festival, then we were at the American Short Film Festival, and then we’re going to be next week at the ARPA International Film Festival in Los Angeles,” he said.
On playing his character, Diego, Rosello said, “Diego is such a human character who is dealing with a very deep internal conflict of him, his identity, and having his family reject him as a man in society.”
On the lessons learned from the “No Somos Iguales” screenplay, Rosello reflected, “It taught me to be more empathetic and to be true to myself despite adversity.”
“People may think they know what is best for you, people may think that they can tell you what to do and put you in a box, but this movie breaks all those barriers,” he acknowledged.
For his fans, he said about the short film, “Thank you for supporting, thank you for watching the film, thank you for supporting me and my career… you guys are the best.”
“I hope ‘No Somos Iguales’ inspires people to be themselves, follow their dreams and be happy in life,” he concluded.
