Canadian actor Corey Sevier chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about starring in “Pumpkin Regatta Romance” on Hallmark.
It premieres on Saturday, September 26 at 8 p.m. EST on Hallmark Channel and it streams the next day on Hallmark+.
The synopsis is: When their fathers refuse to move past a disagreement, Nadine (Mishael Morgan), daughter of the boat shop owner, and Ethan (Corey Sevier), a pumpkin farmer, team up to heal the feud and revive the town’s Pumpkin Regatta.
‘Pumpkin Regatta Romance’
On being a part of this new rom-com, he exclaimed, “It was so fun! It really was. I love fall. The production team did a beautiful job. We had such a fun cast. The movie is a lot about community, obviously. We had some heartfelt and great conversations on and off set. It was awesome!”
“We were literally in pumpkins on the water… these pumpkin regattas are a real thing,” he said. “I couldn’t believe it. My wife wrote the script, so when she was doing research, I couldn’t believe that people actually do this. When we did it, we had safety people help us. It’s not as easy as it looks. It was a lot of fun.”
“The production team around us made it super safe. We had so much fun. When you see those scenes, it’s Mishael and I trying to figure it out. We were shooting at a marina. We had all these professional boaters there that were like showing us the ropes because we had no idea what we were doing. We were confident and it was one heck of a workout,” he elaborated.
Sevier was drawn to playing Ethan for several reasons. “I got to drive a tractor and I played a farmer. That was awesome! I checked the box off my childhood boy list,” he admitted. “Then, we got to have a hay fight and a pumpkin fight in the barn.”
Sevier praised the food in this movie. “I loved the cake pops, the burgers and the milkshakes. We did some good eating on this one,” he said.
Working with Mishael Morgan
On working with Mishael Morgan as his leading lady, he said, “I am a fan of Mishael’s work. We just got along so well. There was such an ease. We could relate it to so much. Obviously, we both have young families and we live in the same place. So, it was really easy offset. I think that helped translate to how much fun we were able to have on set.”
Lessons learned from the script
On the lessons learned from this screenplay, she said, “I think it’s a reminder of the importance of family and community, especially this time of year. It talks about family and the importance of it, and overcoming things.”
“I hope that there is a theme of hope. This film is like ‘Romeo and Juliet’ meets ‘Grumpy Old Men.’ It’s fun and it’s light but there are some heartfelt moments in there,” he acknowledged.
“I think it’s one of those movies that reminds you that you need to call your mother. It’s just a nice reminder of the importance of all that,” he added.
Christmas Con
On being a part of Christmas Con in New Jersey a few years ago, Sevier said, “That was my first time doing it. I had a wonderful experience. Hearing all the people’s stories about our movies was really, really touching.”
“Obviously, you also get to see all these actors that you haven’t seen in years. So, that was another really cool part of it,” he added.
Stage of his life
On the title of the current chapter of his life, he remarked, “Surrender.” “With young kids, you’ve got to go with the flow and enjoy. It is important to enjoy every moment,” he said.
Success
Regarding his definition of success, Sevier stated, “If you do something you love, and have quality time with family and your community, and people you care about, then there is nothing better than that. I feel very fortunate to be doing what I love to do.”
Closing thoughts on ‘Pumpkin Regatta Romance’
For fans and viewers, he expressed, “We want to entertain. This is a fun, light film that tugs at the heartstrings. There are some really beautiful family relationships that get explored in this.”
“Also, what it means to carry on traditions and making your own. I like entertaining people, making them laugh, and hopefully hungry with this film,” he said with a sweet laugh. “There is some really cool food in this, and I hope it makes them want to go out and pick out their own pumpkins, especially during this time of year.”
