Cory Garvey chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about representing Idaho in the forthcoming Mister USA competition, which will take place in Los Angeles this July.

The late but great James Dean once said: “Dream as if you’ll live forever, live as if you’ll die today.” This quote applies to fitness professional Cory Garvey, 24.

Mister USA pageant

Mister USA is an American beauty pageant, which is held annually, and the winner goes on to represent the United States in the Mister Universe competition. It is a celebration of culture, diversity, beauty, intelligence and empowerment. They believe in the power of young leaders to make a difference in the world. It is not solely about outer beauty; it recognizes the inner beauty and intelligence of their contestants.

On competing for Mister USA, Garvey said, “I am a little bit nervous for it.  I see an opportunity to take advantage of the amount of people that are watching and send a good message out there. That is what I post about on social media. I try to motivate people to be their best selves.”

Representing Idaho

On repping Idaho, he said, “I’ve been going to school in Idaho at Brigham Young University since 2022. I’ve been traveling back and forth from Arizona there.”

“I am honestly very much looking forward to representing Iowa in this year’s Mister USA competition,” he added.

Daily motivations

On his daily motivations, he shared, “I am big on fitness. I love working on myself and I love trying to be the best version of myself not only physically but spiritually and mentally. I try to keep myself aligned with my goals.”

Future plans

Regarding his future plans, he said, “Someday, in the future, I would really love to start a family,” he said. “I want to live life and be able to support that family and just bring happiness to everyone. It’s a work in progress. We will see if that happens soon.”

“Gym-wise, I am just getting lean and tan for the event coming up,” he admitted.

Advocacy for Mister USA

Garvey opened up about his advocacy for the 2025 Mister USA pageant. “I want to inspire others to not be scared of chasing their dreams and achieving what they want to do with their lives,” he said.

“We only have one life, so what’s the point of being scared and never actually trying to achieve your goals and dreams if fear and anxiety are keeping you away from them,” he explained.

“This is what stops so many people from reaching their full potential from achieving the most amazing things that they can possibly have. I have been stopped by doubt and fear countless times, and I am really trying to push that message out there,” he elaborated.

“I feel like you are not really living if you are not achieving those things,” he added.

Garvey on his online personal training business

Presently, he is starting his online personal training business. “I am doing that with my older brother Tyler,” he said. “Other than that, I am in the process of building my social media platform. It would be cool to be an athlete for one of those gym sponsors.”

Garvey on his love for Sports

Garvey expressed his love for sports. “Growing up, I just played basketball, soccer,” he admitted. “I was lucky enough to have my dad force me to play all sports. In high school, I stuck to wrestling and tennis.”

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his life, Garvey said, “New Aspirations.”

“I feel like I have a lot of doors opening around me, but I haven’t stepped through them yet,” he said.

Superpower of choice

His superpower of choice would be “teleportation.” “I would love to teleport anywhere; that would be so cool,” he admitted.

Defining moments

On his defining moments, he remarked, “I’ve spent a lot of time doing missionary work in Ecuador and Texas. During that time, I was really questioning life itself, and what I was doing here on this Earth and what purpose I had as a person. I spent those two years right after high school.”

“I feel like you really have to search and find yourself before you start life. For most people in the United States, life starts after high school because you are on your own and you have a lot to figure out,” he acknowledged.

“So, I took that time to figure out myself. I was teaching and learning on my own during that time, and I feel like I really progressed, and I absolutely needed that during that time,” he added.

Success

On his definition of the word success, Garvey said, “Success is not necessarily what I have; I don’t see that as success. I see success as something you gained as a person such as abilities that you have gained through difficult experiences. I count that as a success.”

“So, success is doing what you love and having a purpose-driven life,” he added.

World-renowned anthropologist Margaret Meade once said: “Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else.” Cory Garvey embodies this wise quote. Hopefully, competing in Mister USA is just a harbinger of more great things to come for Cory Garvey in the future.
