David Torres chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about representing North Carolina in the 2026 Mr. America Global pageant.
Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu once said: “Do the difficult things while they are easy and do the great things while they are small. A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” This quote applies to David Torres.
Mr. America Global
The Mr. America Global competition is more than just a showcase of style and presence—it is a transformative experience designed to empower participants with the skills, confidence, and knowledge to excel both personally and professionally. The finals will be held in Washington, D.C. on August 9th, 2026.
On repping North Carolina, he exclaimed, “I’m very excited to represent North Carolina, which is one of my favorite states here in the America. It is full of nature, mountains, waterfalls, amazing people, and a lot of connections because when we get in nature, we are able to connect with ourselves.”
“We have the ability to dissociate ourselves a little bit from city life, and we connect with nature and all those little pieces that we need to pay attention to keep growing as humans,” he added.
Daily motivations
On his daily motivations, he shared, “I am motivated by the opportunity that the universe gives me to learn from challenges and obstacles. Also, every day I’m there to help others understand that the things that happen to us don’t come here to destroy us… they actually come to shape us to become the people that we are meant to be.”
Torres on why he should win Mr. America Global
When asked why he feels he should win this year’s Mr. America Global pageant, he responded, “I do believe that I have a lot of qualities that best represent this organization. I am somebody who is more than just a nice face or a nice body. I’ve been working very hard my entire life and I am doing my best to be authentic and to stay true to myself. I’ve been helping communities and I’ve been transforming a lot of people along the way.”
“My profession has allowed me to transform other people’s lives, and I do believe that Mr. America Global should be represented by somebody who is there for the community and who wants to make the world a better place,” he acknowledged.
“I am somebody who wants to be better for himself and for others,” he added.
Plans for the future
Regarding his future plans, he shared, “I just want to keep growing and I want to keep spreading my message, where I raise awareness on men’s mental health. I want to keep getting on more platforms and on more stages, where I can tell people that it’s okay to not be okay.”
“I had a brother who died because he killed himself, and I’ve been meeting a lot of people who have been in that dark place, where they just see darkness and they feel bad for everything that is happening around them and in their own lives. So, I want to be there for more people and find platforms such as Mr. America Global to spread this message of hope, and that people are not alone,” he elaborated.
“I’ve been helping a lot of people reach their full potential, and I want to spread my bright light as much as possible.It’s important to remind people to not lose their faith. It’s okay to not be okay. Don’t be afraid to talk to people, and to be vulnerable. It’s okay to be completely real, and we should be there for one another,” he explained.
“We all have insecurities and we all have a lot of things on our minds. So, it’s our responsibility, as adults, to look inside and find love, and heal from our traumas. When we heal that, we become better humans, better partners, better sons, and better siblings,” he noted.
“Little by little, we can create a world where it’s a lot less darker. I do believe that we have so much love, each of us, inside of us. We just need to share that love,” he admitted.
“Have conversations where you talk to the other person about who you are and allow the other person to tell you who they are! Talk about your childhood, fears, happiness and memories. This way, we feel more connected and I think that creates such a big impact in everybody’s lives,” he added.
Success
On his definition of the word success, he said, “Success, for me, is to stop following what everybody else is doing, and just follow your hearts. At the end of the day, I think we all have a destiny.”
“When we follow our hearts, we always start walking towards a path that is full of flowers, full of knowledge, and of amazing people. Sometimes we don’t understand what we’re doing, but we just need to keep walking with resilience and having our eyes and our hearts open, because the universe is always talking to us,” she elaborated.
“Just trust in the universe, and have faith in that whatever is going to happen is always going to happen for your benefit,” he added.
Message for his fans and supporters
For his fans and supporters, David expressed, “I would like to tell my fans that although I come from a very poor family, we were rich in love and heart. I do believe that if we put something on our minds, we can accomplish what we set out to do. I am living proof of that… If we work hard, if we are resilient, and if we heal our pasts, then our future can be amazing.”
“The dreams that we had when we were kids can become our present if we just believe that we are capable. Just let go of your fears and all those limitations. Remember that you are always enough and that you are capable to conquer your dreams,” he elaborated.
“If you control your mind, you can control anything and you can just move forward. That’s the way to the dreams,” he added.
Closing thoughts on Mr. America Global
David remarked,, “I would like people to see that I’m not just a nice body or a just a pretty face. I want them to see for themselves that we are more than that. We are more than that. I want them to see that I am a bright light and that we need to pay attention holistically… body, mind, and spirit.”
“It’s how you feel with yourself when you are in front of a mirror. When we are very connected, we an unstoppable unit, and we start seeing beauty all around our daily lives,” he concluded.
