Emmyrich “Richie” Vicente chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about representing Maryland in the 2025 Mr. America Global and he opened up about his work with Story Tapestries.

Newly-engaged Taylor Swift once said: “If you are lucky enough to find something that you love, and you have a shot at being good at it, don’t stop, don’t put it down.” This quote applies to Emmyrich Vicente.

The Mr. America Global competition is more than just a showcase of style and presence—it is a transformative experience designed to empower participants with the skills, confidence, and knowledge to excel both personally and professionally.

How was your experience in Mr. America Global?

I had a fantastic and memorable experience. Julio and Tony’s priority was to make sure we are comfortable, made us feel safe and be our authentic self. There was so much love that I felt from the local Marylanders, friends and families. I am very blessed.

What was your favorite part about it?

My favorite part, it’s really tough to select only one because each moments were unique. However, the sashing ceremony was really exciting because we were all just getting acquainted to each other, then the final night.

When we all, at this time, build the bonds and have the sense of brotherhood. Those I would say have stood out.

What motivates you each day?

Each day we have different activities. The anticipation of what’s next is what’s made me actively thinking of what to come, then inspired me to be my best as I started to put on my sash as Mr. Maryland. Those inspired me to be motivated each day.

What did the Mr. America Global journey teach you about yourself?

I learned to keep an open-mind for brand new experience.  It also made me aware of my other ability to quickly learn something new in a very short period of time.

Can you tell us about your work with Arianna Ross and the work that you both do with Story Tapestries?

I am the current Vice Chair and Chairperson Elect for 2026 with Story Tapestries. Together with other board members we get to give guidance on the organizations strategies, activities and mission. Arts is very powerful when you use it for good, empower and development.

I am connecting the other organization that I support with Arianna, the Filipino American Cancer Care lead by Josie Ziman. She was also at the audience. In that organization, I am one of their board of advisor, we help our cancer warriors financially and uplifting our survivors and caregivers.

We are also doing a bi-weekly cancer prevention awareness via radio show in Facebook, YouTube and Amazon Fire, that’s a collaboration with PHLV radio.

What do your plans for the future include?

As Mr America Global Maryland and Influencer, I am to act on my advocacy. To continue my work in the community. I will be distributing the funds I’m able to save during the competition to the 3 organizations that support our cancer warriors, Survivors and caregivers. They are Filipino American Cancer Care Inc; Special Love and Runway for a Cure DC.

I will be putting some workshops about cancer prevention and awareness. I will be partnering with those organizations and cancer centers in Maryland, DC and Virginia areas.

I am co-directing the 5th year anniversary fashion gala of Filipino American Cancer Care on Oct 12, 2025 at the Hyatt Regency Reston Virginia.

Lastly, I will be keeping in touch with my Mr. America Global 2025 brothers.

How does it feel to be a part of the digital age?

I am thankful. Because of this digital capabilities I can be agile and pivot to be present. I am taking advantage all of this to do good to others and my communities and do better by searching facts, ideas and information that’s helpful to my work purpose

What does the word success mean to you? (My favorite question)

For me, when I see someone that I mentored or given some advice/guidance to become successful. And leaving a place better than when I’ve found it. That is what success means to me.
