Carlo Powell, performer and dancer of Magic Men Australia, chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos. He spoke about the love he has for his craft, as well as the upcoming tour in Canada, which kicks off in a few weeks.

Bestselling author and motivational speaker Steve Maraboli once said: “Hustle until your haters ask if you’re hiring.” This quote applies to Carlo Powell.

“I’ve been with Magic Men Australia for just over a year. I joined as a backup dancer,” he said. “Performing live and touring is the best job ever.”

“Carlos, Will Parfitt and Ceaser Smith are awesome to work with. Ceaser looks after us, and Will and Sean just make us laugh all the time. Sean Wepener is so great, he is such a character,” he said. “I am very lucky with them.”

On his daily motivations, Powell said, “Honestly, I am motivated by striving to better every day. I’m trying to be better than the person I was the day before. That’s really important.”

For young and aspiring dancers and artists, he said, “Always be open to learn, you will never get to a point where you will know everything. Always stay humble, and surround yourself with people that are going to help you. Also, don’t always be a ‘yes’ man, stay humble.”

Powell shared his excitement for the Magic Men Australia international tour in Canada next month. “I am very excited,” he exclaimed. “I was actually quite surprised that I was chosen because I am still very new. I feel like I’ve earned this spot, and now there is no looking back now. I reckon this is going to my first proper international tour. I’ve never been to Canada, so I don’t really know what to expect but I hear that Canada is really nice. Hopefully, it will allow me to network and build connections.”

A former swimmer, he listed “freestyle” as his personal favorite stroke. “When I was younger, I used to swim competitively,” he admitted.

On the title of the current chapter of his life, Powell said, ” “Overwhelmed… but in the best possible way.” “I’m all over the place,” he said with a sweet laugh. “Way too many things are happening, but they are exciting. That’s the best way to describe my life right now.”

Regarding his definition of the word success, Powell said, “Building good connections. Money can be part of it but for me, a big thing that stands out is building connections.”
