Actress and musician Jessica Lowndes has turned ghosting into a power anthem with new single”‘Ghost.” She spoke with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about her new music.

Lowndes isn’t just haunted by her ghosts. She is dancing with them!

Your new single “Ghost” just dropped, and it’s such a fun, empowering take on modern dating. What inspired it?

I think we’ve all been ghosted at some point, or maybe we’ve been the ghost ourselves. (Laughs.) Dating culture has gotten so bizarre. We’ve somehow normalized disappearing on people instead of having an actual conversation. And the funniest part is, half the time, they don’t even stay gone!

There’s a lyric in the song, “You ghost, then come back close,” and I think that pretty much sums up modern dating. Someone disappears, resurfaces when it’s convenient, and suddenly you’re supposed to pick up where you left off.

I wanted to take something that can really mess with your head and completely flip the narrative. Turn the confusion into confidence, the rejection into a little rebellion, and give the power right back to the person who was ghosted.

Because someone else’s inability to communicate has absolutely nothing to do with your worth.

So, this is really about taking your power back?

100 percent! I love writing from real emotions, but I also love transforming them into something unexpected.

There’s something incredibly empowering about taking an experience that could have knocked you down and turning it into a full-on dance anthem.

Instead of sitting around wondering why someone disappeared, you’re out living your best life, dancing with your friends, and realizing you were the prize all along.

I wanted the song to have that unapologetic energy. A little attitude, a little sass, and a whole lot of confidence.

It’s not about getting even. It’s about getting your groove back.

There’s something so relatable about that lyric, “You ghost, then come back close.” Why do you think this push-and-pull dynamic has become so common?

I think we’ve created this dating culture where everyone wants connection, but not everyone wants the vulnerability or accountability that comes with it.

We have endless ways to communicate, yet somehow we’ve gotten worse at actually communicating. (Laughs.)

And ghosting has become so casual! People disappear, watch your stories, like a photo three weeks later, send a random “Hey stranger” text… It’s almost comical.

It’s like, wait, weren’t you just a ghost? Who gave you permission to come back from the dead? (Laughs.)

I think that’s what makes the song so relatable. We’ve all experienced some version of that ridiculous push and pull.

And at a certain point, you just have to recognize the pattern, laugh at the absurdity of it all, and decide you’re no longer available for the disappearing act.

The song is a sexy, high-energy dance track rather than a traditional breakup song. Was that intentional?

Absolutely. I love the idea of taking something emotionally complicated and turning it into something bold, sexy, and completely liberating.

I didn’t want to make a song about being a victim of ghosting. I wanted to make a song about owning your power.

There’s something so badass about taking an experience that was completely out of your control and turning it into something that’s entirely yours.

The beat is infectious, the lyrics have attitude, and there’s this playful confidence running through the whole thing.

It’s a little dark, a little cheeky, a little provocative. And honestly, dating these days is so ridiculous, sometimes the best thing you can do is turn it into a banger.

Releasing it right before Halloween feels like perfect timing. Was that always the plan?

I just felt too perfect not to! (Laughs.) Ghosting has practically become the unofficial sport of modern dating, so I figured it deserved its own Halloween anthem.

I loved the idea of taking this whole dating phenomenon and making it fun, sexy, and a little mischievous.

And creatively, the possibilities were endless. Ghost costumes, choreography, a whole dating pool of ghosts… I mean, the jokes practically write themselves!

But what I really love is that the song lives way beyond Halloween. Halloween was the perfect excuse to introduce it to the world, but the message is universal. It’s about confidence, knowing your worth, and taking your power back. That’s something you can celebrate all year long.

And let’s be honest, ghosting isn’t exactly seasonal. (Laughs.)

The costumes might come off after October, but the attitude stays year-round.

You’ve also launched a dance trend around the song. What’s the idea behind that?

I wanted to create something that anyone who’s ever ghosted or been ghosted could have fun with.

Because let’s be honest, most of us probably fall into at least one of those categories! (Laughs.)

The whole idea is to take that energy and flip it. Turn the mixed signals into dance moves. Turn the disappearing act into your own moment in the spotlight.

Throw on a ghost costume, grab your friends, learn the choreography, and make it your own.

I love the idea of people all over the world turning their dating horror stories into something hilarious and empowering.

It’s Halloween, it’s a dance party, and everyone’s invited. Even the ghosts. (Laughs.)

And the best part is, you don’t need a ghost costume to keep the trend going. The song is really about owning your confidence, having fun, and refusing to let someone else’s behavior steal your shine. That’s an energy I want people to carry with them long after Halloween.

What do you hope people take away from “Ghost”?

That your power doesn’t disappear just because someone else does.

I think there’s something incredibly freeing about realizing you don’t need closure from someone else to move forward. You get to decide how the story continues.

For me, I turned that energy into music. Something bold, playful, and completely my own.

I want people to put this song on, turn it all the way up, feel sexy, feel unstoppable, and remember that they never needed anyone else’s validation in the first place.

And if someone wants to disappear from your life, let them.

They can be the ghost. You’ll be the one haunting the dance floor. (Laughs.)

“Ghost” is available on Spotify and Apple Music. It earned a favorable review from True Hollywood Talk.
