Emmy-nominated actor Max Ehrich chatted with #Powerjouranlist Markos Papadatos about his upcoming film “The Kindred.”

The synopsis is: When a 348 year old vampire named Alarac (Max Ehrich) turns an unassuming and formerly meager human named Draven (Bryan James) into one of his own kind, the two embark on a wild journey together.

It was written and directed by Bryan James, who also co-stars in it with Ehrich.

New movie

Regarding this new movie, Ehrich exclaimed, “I’m really excited about it. I’ve always wanted to play a vampire, so my teenage Twilight fan is having a field day right now!”

“There is a lot of depth to this character, and the story explores the complexities of the vampire world. Vampire stories have been told in many different ways, but I believe this one really dives into the psychology of being a vampire. It has far more intricacies than your typical young adult vampire story. It is definitely something I would watch, so I’m excited to film it and really sink my teeth into the role, pun intended! I’m absolutely stoked,” he elaborated.

“It’s a really great script! My character is fascinating, complex, and definitely has a sexy edge to him. It’s a very cool role,” he added.

Lessons learned from the screenplay

On the lessons learned from “The Kindred” screenplay, Ehrich reflected, “The script made me reflect on the many complexities of being alive. My character is a vampire who has lived for approximately 348 years, and exploring his perspective gave me a deeper appreciation for life and the value of time.”

“Having access to that many years of experience is an incredible concept, although I certainly wouldn’t want to achieve it by becoming a vampire and drinking blood,” he exclaimed.

“What I found most interesting was the opportunity to get inside someone’s mind, understand their perspective, and see how they view the world and life itself. Experiencing that through the eyes of a vampire is fascinating, and I think audiences will be intrigued by it as well. I certainly was when I read the script,” he explained.

Reuniting with Bryan James

On reuniting with Bryan James, Ehrich remarked, “It’s awesome! Brian is such a passionate human being. He’s someone who comes from a similar place as I do. We both live to create; telling stories is what truly fulfills us.”

“Bryan also has tremendous integrity, which is something I value deeply. We both want to entertain people while using our platforms to help others. We believe in creating meaningful work with positive messages, and that philosophy is reflected in our partnership and creative process,” he noted.

“I’m incredibly grateful that he approached me about this project. It’s been quite a journey for me, and Kindred is a wonderful opportunity to draw upon my life experiences and bring them into this character,” he added.

‘Reckless’ vs. ‘The Kindred’

They previously starred together in “Reckless,” and Ehrich noted the differences between the two projects. “This is one is completely different! Even the genres and overall tones are very distinct,” he admitted.

“Both projects have challenged me in ways I hadn’t experienced before, particularly in portraying characters I’ve never played. That’s probably the biggest similarity between them. Beyond that, they’re very different creatively, which makes this project especially exciting for me,” he elaborated.

Closing thoughts on ‘The Kindred’

For fans, he remarked about the new movie, “Buckle up! Get ready to see me in a way you’ve never seen me before.”

“This role allows me to explore a much more focused and complex side of my craft. Over the past several years, I’ve gained so much life experience, which has deepened my emotional range and given me access to different levels and layers of performance that I may not have been able to reach before,” he noted.

“I genuinely believe this could be one of my most electric performances yet. I feel incredibly energized because I’m embracing my life, my journey, and everything I’ve experienced. I can’t wait to bring all of that into this role and share it with audiences,” he concluded.
