Trevor Donovan has officially joined the cast of the upcoming feature film “Ethan Almighty – Ethan’s Law,” appearing alongside Sean Patrick Flanery (“The Boondock Saints”). #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the scoop.

While the casting adds major talent to the production, for Donovan, the project represents a convergence of his professional career and his personal dedication to animal welfare.

Donovan steps into the pivotal role of Eric Davidson, a doctor whose own battle for health uniquely positions him to understand the weight of a miracle. His storyline runs parallel to the dog’s journey, exploring how Ethan’s survival gave hope to a community.

For Donovan, joining a film centered on the resilience of a rescue dog is a natural extension of his off-screen life. A dedicated animal welfare advocate, Donovan has spent years using his platform to champion the underdog. His commitment goes far beyond the red carpet; this past December, he traveled to Costa Rica to volunteer on the ground at the Nosara Animal Clinic, assisting with the care and rehabilitation of local strays.

His passion for rescue also takes center stage stateside. Donovan served as the host of the Great American Rescue Bowl, helping to shine a national spotlight on shelter pets. He is also set to return to Wilmington, North Carolina, to host the “Raise the Ruff” Casino Night, a major fundraising event benefiting Paws Place No-Kill Dog Rescue.

“There is a real need today for stories that uplift, inspire, and remind people of compassion,” said writer and director Tané McClure. “ ‘Ethan Almighty – Ethan’s Law’ is exactly that kind of film, and Trevor brings a grounded emotional honesty and strength that makes his character deeply relatable within this journey.”

Currently in pre-production, the film is scheduled to begin shooting in April 2026 on location in Kentucky, where the true events took place. The production has built strong regional support, reflecting the lasting impact of Ethan’s story across the state.

“Ethan Almighty – Ethan’s Law” is written, directed, and produced by Tané McClure (McClure Films). It is produced by Michelle Alexandria (Light Year Pictures) and executive produced by Michael Olsen (Motion Media Group), Todd Slater (Convoke Media), Stephanie Garvin, and Lisanne Canty (Hollywood Expansion Corporation).

Donovan can also be seen starring in the upcoming third season of “When Hope Calls.” He is represented by Michael Yanni at Good Shepherd Management.
