“Superman Returns” actor Brandon Routh chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about his new Hallmark movie “A Keller Christmas Vacation.” It will premiere on Sunday, November 9 at 8/7c on Hallmark.

The synopsis is: Siblings Dylan, Cal, and Emory are at a crossroads in their lives and have drifted apart. To help, their parents plan a family Christmas river cruise visiting Germany and Austria. Routh and Jonathan Bennett play brothers in this holiday film.

On playing Cal, Routh said, “I like how Cal starts from a place of feeling not as joyful, happy, and ready to celebrate Christmas, and he is also not really ready to be with his family.”

“So, he has room to grow as he appreciates more the wonderful qualities that his brother and sister bring to him and help get him out of a little funk that he might have,” Routh noted.

On the lessons learned from this screenplay, Routh said, “I think that one of the great things about family is sometimes that because we’ve spent so much time together as kids, we have a vision of who those people are, who our siblings are, even who our parents are.”

“We go out into the world, and we experience other people. It takes coming back home and to family gatherings with a more open appreciation for our family members to see that maybe they have grown in ways that we didn’t know, so that they can see that we’ve grown in different ways,’ he elaborated.

“Also, we can build new relationships with them that are I think less antagonistic and hopefully, have more love and appreciation for each other,” he added.

On working with Jonathan Bennett as his on-screen brother, Routh said, “It was fantastic. Jonathan and I have known each other for many years and often remarked and had other people remark that we look very similar and could be brothers.”

“So, Jonathan made it happen in this movie. We got to play brothers and be funny while we’re doing it. This movie was a lot of fun. I look forward to it happening again. I think people will appreciate it,” Routh elaborated.

Regarding his transition from playing Superman in “Superman Returns” vs. being in the Hallmark world, he remarked, “Well, I try to strip away a little bit of the Superman aspect of it. Cal is more of a Clark slightly in this version. It’s great to play characters where I don’t have to be the hero all the time. They get to have some vulnerability and show some more emotional space because I’m more like that guy.”

“I’m more like Cal than I am Superman,” he admitted. “So, it’s nice to be able to touch on that and bring some even more heart and love to the character.”

Routh shared that he is excited for Christmas Con in New Jersey this year, especially since he will get the chance to see all the Hallmark fans.

On his definition of the word success, Routh said, “Success isn’t necessarily in the number of jobs that you do. To me, it seems to be the way you interact with people. As an actor, it is the feeling that people get from the projects that I get to put out into the world because most people don’t get to meet me personally.”

“If I can be successful in bringing some light and love and joy into the world as an artist, I think that’s something that’s become more valuable to me as I meet people at conventions and just people on the street,” he elaborated.

“I get to play these characters often that are full of joy and love, and that is something that people seem to appreciate. So, I feel like I’ve been pretty successful at that,” he noted.

“Also, helping make the world possibly a better place, one person at a time,” Routh concluded.
