New Greek-American eatery Gyro City is headed to Manhattan this month. #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the scoop.

Its mascot, Yianni, will have his first stop at MacDougal Street at Greenwich Village!

On January 17th, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. EST, Gyro City officially opens. It will bring Greek gyros (correct pronunciation is yeeros), French fries, bowls and treats made the way they should be: fresh, intentional, and full of heart.

“We’re Gyro City — serving up authentic Gyros, Fries, and Treats made the way they should be: no shortcuts, no compromises. Right now, we’re building out our space, fine-tuning the menu, and dialing in every detail to bring something special to NYC,” they exclaimed.

“Our goal is to do it right — sourcing better ingredients, moving away from seed oils, and building a place where quality speaks for itself,” they acknowledged..

“What began as a simple dream has grown into a place built on quality, tradition, and care for the craft. Happy New Year, New York. We can’t wait to cook for you,” Gyro City posted on social media.

“From the street to the kitchen, this is Gyro City taking shape on MacDougal. Hands on the pita, fire on the grill, and every detail coming together ahead of January 17th. New York, we’re almost there,” they added.
