Actor Jake Galluccio chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about his acting work in the vertical drama space.
Galluccio on the digital age
On being an actor in the digital age, Galluccio said, “It feels pretty interesting. It’s just very different than the way it was, but I think it’s very good to grow with these things. So, you’re seeing these things on the big screen your whole life and now, everything is on your phone.”
“So, it’s definitely a big change, but I feel that if you are not going to accept these roles that can be watched on your phones, then you’re not going to be acting much at all,” he noted.
“Being in this digital age, we need to adapt with it. You need to learn to love it and be passionate about acting,” he added.
Galluccio on the vertical space
Interesting. It’s different from, you kind of watch these movies. Like, I was a big Marvel fan growing up, so I would watch these big, crazy, awesome movies on the big screen, and then I would also watch these rom coms.
Then you go watch something completely different, because I was never a soap opera person. And I know they’re pretty much just an article vertical soap operas for your phone.

“The vertical space is just different,” he noted. “I never, ever thought I would have been doing the type of acting. I thought I would be playing a superhero or something romantic, or something subtle, or just fun things.”
“It is fun to be in the vertical world because it’s fun to see you’re going into a project, and you pretty much know what the ending’s going to be… and you know how many people are going to get slapped and how many people are going to be called certain names,” he said.
“It really is a blessing because I can call myself a paid leading actor, and I’m consistently working,” he admitted.
“So, it’s very nice to be in a world that’s quick with quick release schedules. Vertical dramas provide very consistent work, which is great,” he added.
‘A Deal with the Hockey Captain’ vertical drama
On starring in “A Deal with the Hockey Captain,” Galluccio remarked, “It did very well for me. It was great! I loved working with the director Longwei Deng, who had a big say on the script’s rewrites and a big say on how we approached things pretty early on.”
“This vertical drama was a love rom-com soap opera, and Longwei was a great director for it. We had a good time when we were filming it, and we knew it was going to do well. It was such a pleasure to work him and with everybody on the projects,” he noted.
“Once it was released, the fans absolutely loved this project, which is so great. I still get edits of the project of myself, and the other actors. It is definitely a blessing to have been on that project because a lot of good things came out of that one,” he acknowledged.
“A Deal with the Hockey Captain” earned a rave review from Digital Journal.
