Three-time Emmy-nominated producer Nick Theurer and Dr. Matt Cassels chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about their “magical” engagement in Machu Picchu, Peru.

Taylor Swift sings in her smash hit “Love Story”: “It’s a love story, baby, just say, ‘Yes’.” Fortunately, Nick Theurer said “yes” to Matt Cassels’ high-altitude proposal.

On his engagement in Peru, Theurer said, “I think the video gives away my emotions. I was out of breath and it wasn’t from the altitude. Engagements are special already, but to say yes at 8000 ft was something from a fantasy. Thankfully our friends Mike Manning and Nick Tocco were there to capture it all and help us celebrate.”

“Shocked is putting it lightly. I was crying my eyes out with happiness. I was also eating an Oreo at the moment it happened so really wasn’t ready for it,” Theurer said with a sweet laugh.

On getting engaged in Peru, Cassels said, “It was nerve-wracking. I’m not a public attention person. I knew I wanted to do it at the top of Machu Picchu with our best friends, but I didn’t know how many other people would be there too. The crowd was so sweet though. Everyone clapped and a couple people cried. I was bright red.”

“Personally, I love that nobody else knew before Nick. It was a total surprise to even our best friends traveling with us. I like that the experience was first and foremost between us. And it took the pressure off while keeping the excitement high,” he added.

When asked what they love most about each other, Theurer said, “What I love most about us is our shared goofiness. I’m so incredibly thankful to have found someone who laughs at the same things I do. Beyond the fun, Matt is truly the most selfless and brilliant person I’ve ever known. Every day feels like a privilege just to be in his presence and soak in his light.”

Cassels remarked, “Two things are tied: Nick is so sweet and caring. I love how much love he has and how kind he is. All the small and big things he does for other people, close friends, complete strangers, animals, bugs, and me, melts my heart. His goofy sense of humor. I’ve never known someone who makes me laugh as much as he does. Even when I’m grumpy and taking it out on him, he can always diffuse me and make me smile.”

Regarding the key to longevity in the relationships, he said, “I’ve read a lot of books on relationships and I’ve been in so many different types. At the end of the day, it will always be two things. Communication and Compassion. Always be open with your partner and always remember they are human too. You’re both on the same team.”

“Patience is really important,” Cassels underscored. “Patience when someone is in a bad mood or does something stupid, knowing that it’s not an affront to the other person. Knowing at the end of the day that we’re both the most important thing to each other and always want to make the other person happy. That and a shared sense of adventure; nothing keeps things fresh like exploring the world together.”

For hopefuls that wish to pop the question to their significant others, he said, “When you know, you know. But it helps to make sure you’re both on the same page before you start ring shopping. While a surprise is great, you don’t want to make someone who is not ready feel obligated to head down that path. Again goes back to communication.”

On his future plans with Gluco-Pro Protein, Theurer said, “Were continuing to grow and explore how to make the brand more visible for those who need it. Finding new partners is a big step for us.”

“We’re still figuring it out. Turns out running a business is hard,” Cassels noted. “Turning a profit is harder… we still haven’t cracked that. We are so proud of the product, and we get such fulfilling feedback from real customers who tell us how it’s helping them or their kids stay active and healthy, so we’re still running with it!”

For his fans and supporters, Theurer said, “Thank you. Its always nice to have a pat on the back for your choices in this world. Sometimes it gets me through my day, so thank you.”

“Thank you for your patience,” Cassels added.

Regarding his definition of the word success, Theurer said, “Success to me means reaching your own goals you set out. They might not always be society’s goals but they should be your own. After that, I believe part of success is enjoying and sharing your reward.”

“40 million dollars would be nice, but I’ll settle for years of laughs and adventures together,” Cassels added.

In “Today Was a Fairytale,” Taylor Swift sings: “But can you feel this magic in the air? It must have been the way you kissed me, Fell in love when I saw you standing there, It must have been the way, Today was a fairytale, It must have been the way, Today was a fairytale.”
