Actress Marisa Brown chatted about starring in the new Great American Family movie “Meet Me in the Margins.” It also stars Merritt Patterson, Liam McIntyre, Charlene Amoia, and Austin Valli.

The synopsis is: Savannah Cade (Merritt Patterson), a quietly brilliant editor at a prestigious publishing house, secretly dreams of becoming a romance novelist, until her hidden manuscript is discovered and anonymously critiqued in the margins. As mysterious notes push her to rewrite both her book and her own tendency to stay silent, Savannah must decide whether to protect her career or finally speak up for the stories, and herself, that matter most. What begins as a professional risk slowly becomes a transformative love story about courage, creativity, and being seen.

Marisa Brown plays the role of Lyla Brant.

On being a part of this film, Brown exclaimed, “It was great and so much fun! I had a blast filming it. I got to watch it last night and I thought it was really charming.”

“Merritt, Liam, Austin, Charlene, and everybody was just great,” she added.

Playing Lyla Brant

Brown was drawn to playing Lyla for several reasons. “I really liked how supportive she was, and how good of a friend she felt like she was,” Brown said. “Lyla really saw her friend in a real way, which sometimes is hard to see yourself. Sometimes, the people close to you can see the best in you in a way that you not always can.”

“I think that’s what Lyla does for Savannah, and I really appreciated that,” she added.

Lessons learned from the ‘Meet Me in the Margins’ screenplay

On the lessons learned from the “Meet Me in the Margins” screenplay, she reflected, “It taught me traits of Lyla that I really wanted to carry into my life, and try to be there, and be open and supportive of the people around me.”

“Sometimes, we get so wrapped up in our own day-to-day lives that it’s like hard to be like, ‘Oh wait, other people are going through this too.’ So it was really nice to see that and to take away from this,” she elaborated.

Advice for young and emerging actors

For young and aspiring actors, she said, “Find your community! Find a community that supports you and that you feel you can really be creative. This business gets hard, there are ups and downs always. So, it’s nice to have that outside place or community where you can feel you have that kind of a solid ground to navigate all of these things through.”

“You can still keep seeing yourself as an artist and as a creative person rather than just  someone trying to get the job. Finding your community is really important,” she underscored.

The digital age

On being a part of the digital age, she said, “I think it is nice being able to Zoom, just from my own home. This is great, so that part of the digital age is really cool. I feel like there’s a lot of good things about it, and then, there’s also a lot of things that are shifting and I’m trying to adjust to them just like everybody else.”

“Even though I like self-tapes, I do miss going into a room with people for auditions. Then, just being on set is just the best feeling. That’s what we are all trying to get to all the time. Other than that, I don’t know if I’m very good with social media. It feels a little overwhelming to me.”

“So, I just try to take it step by step and keep doing the best I can with it,” she added.

Superpower of choice

On her superpower of choice, she shared, “I would love to fly because I am a very nervous flyer. It would be really great to be able to fly and to know that I had that superpower.”

“So, I would love to be able to fly,” she reiterated.

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of her life, she said, “I feel like I’m in era of trying new things and taking chances.”

“I’m branching out into more producing, directing, and trying to get my own projects made and off the ground,” she said. “That’s really exciting and a new things for me.”

Marisa Brown remembers the late Johnny Wactor

Brown fondly remembered the late but great slain “General Hospital” actor Johnny Wactor, who was killed over two years ago from an attempted catalytic converter theft in Los Angeles. “We all miss Johnny so much, and there is a space in the theater company that I’m a part of, and Johnny was a part of that; it will never be filled because Johnny was just so much of a presence, and he will stay with all of us forever,” she explained.

“Johnny’s legacy is definitely living on,” she underscored. “Johnny was an amazing human, and we all miss him dearly.”

Success

Regarding her definition of success, she said, “I think success is many different things. I think the most important thing to me is my family and feeling that I’m there for them. Also, that I’ve created a loving safe space for my kids and my husband and myself. Then, in terms of career, I think success is knowing that you can keep going.”

“So, any time I get to lose myself in a character a little bit, and just find that flow and presence, that’s a success,” she added.

Message for her fans

For her fans and supporters, she said, “Thank you for watching this movie, and thanks for going on this ride with us. I hope yo like it. I hope we can keep taking you guys on adventures and movies.”

Closing thoughts on ‘Meet Me in the Margins’

Brown remarked about the new film, “I hope the fans leave feeling hopeful, and I hope that they leave feeling like they watched the journey of a woman learning to really put herself out there, take a risk, and know that she had people that cared about her, loved her, and supported her, and perhaps they can find that in their own lives.”
