Actor Robbie Silverman chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about starring in vertical dramas.

American author, speaker, and leader John C. Maxwell once said: “Dreams don’t work unless you do.” This quotation applies to actor Robbie Silverman.

Two of his most recent verticals for ReelShort include “Step Aside, I’m the King of Capital” and “The Hidden Empire of Stephen Adams.”

Ironically enough, in both vertical dramas when he played Mr. A (“The Hidden Empire of Stephen Adams”) and Mr. S (“Step Aside, I’m the King of Capital”) respectively he had his own throne. “Yup, that throne is mine. Both projects were a lot of fun,” he admitted.

“Mr. A was less forgiving than Mr. S,” he said with a sweet laugh. “Mr. S was a different personality type.”

Vertical dramas

On being a part of the vertical drama world, he shared, “It has been interesting. l’ve had a slightly different journey than most of the young bucks in this space, because I mostly come from the film and TV worlds. So, the vertical space is crazy, but it’s super fun.”

“I like that nobody really takes vertical dramas too seriously,” he admitted. “Of course, everyone wants to do a good job. The content is lighthearted and fun.”

ReelShort

On working with ReelShort, he exclaimed, “I love working for ReelShort. Obviously, they are the kings of the vertical space, and they run a really professional set. I’ve had nothing but great experiences with them.”

Working with Nikki Leigh

Silverman had great words about working with actress Nikki Leigh as his leading lady in “Step Aside, I’m the King of Capital.” “I love Nikki. She’s great. We are still good friends. This was Nikki’s first vertical, and actually, it was my second one,” he said.

“We were both fresh in the space but now, we both have taken off in it. Nikki is awesome,” he reiterated.

Working with Spencer Palmer

Silverman spoke about Spencer Palmer playing his son in “The Hidden Empire of Stephen Adams.”

“Working with Spencer was cool! He is super fresh into acting so he is relatively new. I am excited for Spencer and his journey. He is already pretty talented and solid. So, things can only go up for him,” he said.

Advice for young and aspiring actors

For young and emerging actors, Silverman encouraged them to “stick around and hang out” because it takes a while.

“A lot of the young kids right now are really lucky that this vertical space exists, because before this, couldn’t really make consistent living being an actor, unless you were booking consistent film and TV work,” he elaborated.

“So, I think it’s really cool. Remember, it takes time and stick around. I am still on my journey, obviously, and I’ve been in it for a long time,” he said.

“My wife, Lilah Richcreek Estrada, is an actress as well and she has been booking really big jobs for a long time; however, it took her 10-plus years to get nine pilots which didn’t take off. For her Netflix show ‘A Man on the Inside,’ it took her over 10 years to finally have something with multiple seasons,” he elaborated.

“So, I would tell them to stick around, and to keep getting better. If you love acting, stay in it. If you every fall out of love with it, then get out,” he added.

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his life, he revealed, “Dad Life.”

Superpower of choice

If he were to have any superpower, it would be “teleportation.” “I would snap my fingers and go anywhere,” he said.

Silverman takes cues from Ed Quinn

Silverman had great words about veteran actor Ed Quinn (who stars as President Hunter Franklin in Tyler Perry’s “The Oval”). “Ed was one of my teachers at the Lesly Kahn acting school. He was a big fan of my work, so I’ve done multiple projects with Ed, and he did the short film ‘Hero,’ which I wrote. Ed was in it, and he calls me ‘Robbie Tank Top.’ I learned so much from Ed.”

Success

On his definition of the word success, Silverman said,” Career-wise, I just want to work consistently. I just want to help provide for my family… so that’s personal success.”

“Obviously, I have big goals as we all do in this industry, and all I can do is work towards them,” he noted. “Success is being on that journey and moving towards the goal.”

“I’m just working on my relationships and being the best dad I can be,” he added.

Message for his fans

For his fans, he expressed, “Thank you for all the support, and stick around. Let’s have fun on this journey together.”
