Ea-Ling Seun spoke with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos at the ALZA Festival about serving as a composer for the vertical drama “Shanghai Sherlock.”

The story follows Sherlock Holmes (played and co-directed by Daniel D. Newman) after he returns to London from the Far East. He investigates murders while balancing friction and chemistry between his ambitious Chinese assistant, Ms. Peng (Eva Park), and Dr. Watson (Alex Crockford).

On being a part of the ALZA Festival in New York, she exclaimed, “It feels a little bit surreal. It has taken a lot of work to get here. I am so happy that the work is finally out there for people to enjoy.”

Regarding her job description as composer, she said, “This role involved a lot of communication with the director Daniel, and just really helping his vision come to life through sound.”

While she didn’t get to chance to work with Alex Crockford (or have any face time with him), she hopes to someday be afforded the privileged opportunity to work with him.

For fans and viewers, she remarked about “Shanghai Sherlock,” “I really had a great time writing for ‘Shanghai Sherlock.’ The sense of escapism was there, so I hope it allows them to escape from their work, and enjoy this! Then, we’ve done our job.”

“I hope people have a great time at the ALZA Festival and I hope it opens their minds to new opportunities,” she concluded.
