“Detective Rose Thorne,” starring Sammy Morningstar in the title role, has begun its principal photography. #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the scoop.

The evening of October 18th was greeted with a car chase and stand off at the Southern Motors Savannah car dealership.

Was it an armed criminal that broke into a nearby jewelry store and made away with thousands of dollars in diamond rings? No, it was the start of filming the first episode of the “Detective Rose Thorne” television series.

As previously announced, principal photography has begun for the new crime thriller series in Savannah Georgia.

The series stars Sammy Morningstar as Det. Rose Thorne, Don Overstreet as Det. Brian Simpkins, Paul Wilson as Capt. Jonathan Rory, Aaron Smolinski as Det. Thomas Morrison, Chanda Rawlings as Mayor Barker, and Lynn Lowry as Linda Thorne.

The weekend also brought Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 alums John Jacob Anderson (William Randolph Moore) and Don Overstreet back on
screen together. Don and John both respectfully played Ravagers in the Marvel Studios film.

The series is based on the book series of the same name published by Jumpmaster Press written by R. Kyle Hannah and Dawn Kirby, who both had small roles in the first episode.

Kord Enterprises Inc. is producing and Jason Hough is both directing and show running the series.

Filming is expected continue through the rest of the year and into 2027.
