Amanda Brugel (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about starring in Season 2 of “Dark Matter” on Apple TV.

Based on the best-selling novel by Blake Crouch, “Dark Matter” is a story of the road not taken. It is now streaming on Apple TV.

On being a part of “Dark Matter” Season 2, she said, “It is always wonderful. I mean, it’s chaos and near death a couple times, but it was inevitably and eventually wonderful.”

Playing her character Blair Caplan

On playing her character Blair Caplan, Brugel said, “I love her decency. I love her morality. I love her humanity. I mean, she’s a scientist, and a lot of the times scientists are painted as people that don’t have feelings, and she’s deeply feeling, and so I admire her for that.”

Transition from ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ to ‘Dark Matter’

Regarding her transition of “The Handmaid’s Tale” to “Dark Matter,” she said, “It is such a gift to be able to go from one amazing, beloved, cool, profound, and provocative story to another. I feel very, very lucky, and be able to play vastly different people.”

“It’s my job, and it’s part of my job, but some people sort of like to play within the same arena, and I love jumping to completely different people and genres, and so in this one, I really get to jump,” she added.

Lessons learned from the ‘Dark Matter’ screenplay

On the lessons learned from the “Dark Matter” screenplay, she reflected, “It taught me that regret, shame and guilt can almost end you more than the thing itself. I feel like it taught me that I am incredibly resilient, but also that regardless of the world that we end up in, we have to sort of make it happy for ourselves.”

“To always go in seeking the perfect world is never going to happen,” she added.

Stage of her life

On the title of the current chapter of her life, Brugel revealed, “Marital Bliss.”

“I just got married two weeks ago, so it’s bliss,” she admitted.

Success

On her definition of the word success, Brugel said, “Success means peace. It used to mean a whole bunch of different things, and I suppose because I’ve had quite a successful life that I’ve really learned that all of those things don’t really mean anything but peace.”

Superpower of choice

If she were to have any superpower, it would be “to fly” and to “be invisible.” “I don’t want to be seen, so I would like to be invisible because I want to snoop,” she said with a sweet laugh.

Message for her fans

For her fans, she said, “I wish them happiness. I want to make sure that people are proud of the choices I’m making in my career and proud of the work that I’m making, and I hope it forces people to have hard conversations most deeply.”

“I hope that women see themselves in me and they empower women. I was saying this to the other day on my Instagram that over 95 percent of my followers are female, and that makes me so proud. I hope I just continue to uplift women,” she elaborated.

Closing thoughts on ‘Dark Matter’

Brugel remarked, “I got a lot of action from this series. I desperately wanted to do action. It was amazing! Now, they created a monster and now that I know I can do it, and I got to train with people that train on Marvel movies.”

“I got to do all sorts of cool training and stunts, and now I just want to be an action hero. I want to be like Liam Neeson, and so what I’m manifesting next is I just want to run and jump. Let’s throw that into the universe. That would be awesome,” she concluded.
