“IF,” written and directed by John Krasinski has been a major commercial success in the box office. #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the recap.

It grossed $33.7 million in its opening weekend, and this original family film has an “A” Cinema Score. This is such a win and showcases that audiences love the film. Audiences are enjoying the film and showing up in movie theaters in big ways. It continues to gross over the week, thus reflecting on strong word-of-mouth.

68% of kids and 34% of the general audience said that “IF” exceeded their expectations. 74% definite recommend for parents. 91% total positive from kids. 90% Total Positive for parents. 86% Total Positive for general audiences. “IF” is the first original PG-rated live-action family film since 2018.

In addition, “IF” is also drawing comparisons to Elemental, a $200M budget film released June 16, 2023, that opened to $29.6 million but managed to gross $496.4 million worldwide. School vacations start next week, thus potentially setting up “IF” for an even longer box office run.

John Krasinski posted on his Instagram: “I’ve been lucky enough to be proud of many things I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of… But to be a part of so much family joy… so many family memories. This experience has truly been unlike any other! Thank you all SO much for your time and for your love! This… is to the IF family!”

The synopsis is: “IF” is about a girl who discovers that she can see everyone’s imaginary friends — and what she does with that superpower — as she embarks on a magical adventure to reconnect forgotten IFs with their kids. IF stars Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski, Cailey Fleming, Fiona Shaw, and the voices of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr. and Steve Carell alongside many more as the wonderfully unique characters that reflect the incredible power of a child’s imagination.

“IF” earned a glowing review from Digital Journal.
